what is good music?
That moves you from the inside. And all this time, I thought that was just the curry at work.
audio aero prima cdp... burn in.
Ours seemed to take around 100-200 hours for the sound to open up, and the bass to fully form.
Advice about warm, gentle speakers...
I've been listening to a pair of GMA Continuum 1.5's for the past several days, and all I can say is these speakers are outstanding. In my opinion, so many box speakers have a difficult time in 'letting go' of the music. In other words, there is a...
Sound Quality or Convenience?
Mitch4t,A Squeezebox is a unit that you connect to your system that you can operate remotely in order to read/select/play (it has its own DAC) music files stored on a hard drive. You can read about it here .
Best low cost speaker cables for my system?
Every cable web site claims that the best cable is no cable. So I went that route. No cables at all. It's definitely cheaper, and provides a blacker background than any of the high priced offerings can ever hope to match.
Sound Quality or Convenience?
We prefer the sound of SET amps, but have opted instead for the convenience of a SS amp with a tube preamp so we can leave the system on all the time. We also added a hard drive and Squeezebox, so we don't have to change the CD's any longer. Since...
Online for a variety of acoustic room treatments?
#3- Corner wedges, foam? something cheap just to cut off the 90 degree angles, is there something Paintable out there?Hey Undertow, Foam exercise rollers work great in the corners. You can get them in varying densities, you can easily paint them,...
Speakers for metal, hard rock ... also SS amp
Mcintosh Amps with horns or most speakers recommended for rock will definatley render the better results over most other amps without a lot of screwing around..I second that recommendation, for everything from Bjork to Pantera.
1st, most memorable recording...
Boa2, so when are you going to put one together? All those Plasmatics, Ah Ha and Duran Duran LPs must really be pileing up.You know, Viridian, we first put together a nice system almost three years ago, of which two years was spent weaning my wife...
1st, most memorable recording...
Years ago, I was at a friend's house for a party, and I heard a live version of "Dead Man's Party", by Oingo Boingo come trumpeting out of his speakers like the bulls at Pamplona. Until that moment, I hadn't much cared for Oingo Boingo. But in an ...
Point of diminishing returns
Most of the threads here are a prime example of this theory at work, in that the effort spent to read post #70 will require the same energy that it took to get 90% of the answer in post #4. And yet, post #70 may provide you with only 2% of additio...
Your vote: Most Useless Audio Adjective
Joe, you crack me up. This list should help standardize any future review of e-stat characteristics.
Not wasting my time on new Digital
I hear ya, Rapogee. Makes a lot of sense. Without naming names, I've heard several $8K+ players that frankly sucked, IMO. I hope you find one that works well for you. I think it's out there. It's just a matter of finding it.Best of luck!
Why do digital cables sound different?
Because they have different mommies and daddies.
Not wasting my time on new Digital
I know this is off topic, but have any you guys tried bit streaming off the ol' PC?We are doing that, Vince, using a Squeezebox that reads wirelessly from an external hard drive. The Squeezebox has its own DAC, but we run it to our CDP/DAC, becaus...
