Affordable intergrated with phono stage..new/used? If you already have an amp you like but no phono, you could add a budget phono. I recommend the Rotel RQ-970BX. Great sounding little box has fixed MM/MC retails for only $200, much better than you will find in (most?) budget amps.
cd skips due to sub woofer Ill bet you have wood floors like me. Cones under and damping on top my take care of it. If that dosnt do it try a wall shelf like Target makes mounted above your rack if possible.
What is a "transmission line" speaker? Go to pmcloudspeaker.com/ , go to LB1 page and click on "transmission line" highlighted in blue. Advantages of this loading can include superior control over the woofer, attenuation of higher frequencies from the back of the woofer and absence of ...
new cary v12 needs new music 88 Basies Street on the JVC label was mentioned in a TAS reveiw and I ran across it on vinyl, if the CD sounds nearly as good it is wonderful. A couple of other CDs I picked up from TAS reveiws that have a high "fun factor" are "Mardi Gras Mambo" ...
more help with vinyl.. Some albums will always sound bad, even when new. This is still a very cost effective way to aquire music. Last night I went to my local "Manifest" and picked up four albums for $18. One new "cut-out", two near mint and one $5 loser (good return p...
Great Small Speakers w/ high WAF? Hate to point out that a lot of the above speakers/w stands are not much of a change in size. I suggested Totem Ones, I would also like to hear the Tablet 8 as well as the new PMC speakers that are "the worlds smallest transmition lines". Evidentl...
Seeing the light Guys, I just got a line on a bulb that blows the SE away at about half the cost! Send me $80 and I will send you a ligtbulb! Free Shipping!
Seeing the light The $50 lightbulb to shine on your cds works great. I would go for the $120 SE version, its just as clear but not as bright.
Great Small Speakers w/ high WAF? My wife misses the Totem 1s I had and they sound great if you have the right amp. Can be used fairly close to the wall.
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction Maybe Im hallucinating. Maybe all amps sound the same anyway. After all, how could two electrical devices with similar specs sound different? Its absurd! This revelation is going to save me a lot of money! Thanks you guys!
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction When I bought my last amp I kept my other amp for a while so I would have something to compare with. The new amp sounded so different after about a month anyone could hear the change. Sloppy bass had tightened up and closed in highs opened up. Thi...
Cheap Old Preamps An old NAD 3020, use only the preamp section. Sounded better than the old NAD preamps and the Hafler as I recall. (Just my opinion) It also has a decent phono.
Should preamp be left turned on? I think they put the power switch on the back for a reason. I would take that as a manufacturers recommendation.
What's your favorite speaker finish? Quad has a new line of dynamic speakers with high grade piano finish standard, starting at only about $700. So it can be done. They are made in China (explains a lot) but they are getting nothing but glowing reviews so they might be good. The Tote...
Minimonitor Choice: Proac 1sc vs. Totem Model 1s I think your choice may depend on what amp you use. I had Totem 1 speakers for some time and found their sound will very considerably with different amps. They dont work well with some lower powered SS amps and respond well to a good dose of curre... |
