Phono Preamplifier Redux .. Damn This is Getting Expensive
@vonhelmholtz If you are willing to spend that level of money on a phono stage, and looking at the rest of your vinyl rig, I would suggest looking into a Modwright PH9.0X, which is a tubed yet completely non-microphonic stage, and the best one I’v...
Sound quality of Roon
@troidelover1499 To add to my post above, I guess I should ask - is there a particular unit you are looking to use that would act as a Roon core? I would suggest refraining from using an existing laptop or computer as they typically introduce nois...
Sound quality of Roon
I am sad I am this late to the game on this thread. It’s been a busy week for me. I agree with many individual points I read through this thread, but I thought it might be helpful to summarize it all into a single stream of thoughts. I whole-hear...
Audio Mirror Preamplifier
I am close with Vlad and have heard his Linea preamp. I demoed a broken-in unit at my house over the weekend. It is incredibly good for its price point. It is very musical, natural sounding, and soulful. It does not have the imaging precision and ...
Two amps into one pair of speakers
Does his speakers have separate binding posts to send signal to different parts of the speaker? For instance, many speakers have four binding posts in the back. A positive and negative for the woofers, and a positive and negative for the midrange ...
Rant against the industry with hopes for discussion on positive change
+1 @tablejockey - This is exactly why I went into business. More people have to help the less aware better understand the wonderful experiences of high end audio. OP - IMO Too little effort has been placed to help demonstrate the value to others,...
Great classical pianists
Lang Lang seems to be gaining traction the last few years.
NY audio show 2022
I no longer live in NYC but did for many many years. I actually met you at one of the NY audio shows, it must have been 2017 or 2018. Your room sounded incredible, among the best against rooms with speakers that cost 5x more.  Looking at the curr...
What are songs where people or instruments sound closer to you?
Also to weigh in on the mono recording posts above, the Analog Productions masters of Ella and Louis does an exceptional job of portraying depth.
What are songs where people or instruments sound closer to you?
@curiousjim That's the one!
To truly enjoy this hobby, I need to learn electronics. Any book recs?
As a prerequisite or companion to Robert Hartley’s book, you can look at Radio Shack’s “Getting Started in Electronics”. It is taught at a “for dummies” level but is quite an incredible wealth of information.
What are songs where people or instruments sound closer to you?
Sarah Vaughan “Ain’t No Use”. Depending on speaker positioning in various systems, I’ve heard her sound huge and front center stage or hear her very far back way beyond the speakers. Placement of other instruments are very well separated with good...
Placement of Components
@bgchz  Placement in the center is acceptable, but generally the more free space you can have between and around the speakers, the better they will image. While there may be some that will say they move their gear away from between their speakers ...
Speaker Placement and Toe-In
+1 @holmz on saying a lot about the room. I started a similar a similar thread last month on this as well that some of you contributed to.  @ozzy How wide is your room, how far apart are the speakers, and what’s your listening distance? The fact ...
