DVD/SACD on the Verge? Madisonears, why were you so hyped on CD when they first came out? The early CDs & players sounded dreadful! SACD & DVD Audio are only as good as the rest of your system. If someone is to own a $500 Sony receiver and some JBL mini monitors...
Best DVD source under 10K Theatris or ayre D1x ? You really should check out the Krell DVD Standard, it has the Faroudja DCDi chipset and the most film-like picture I have ever seen from DVD. It is really stunning.
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi? What speakers have people picked over the B&Ws? I've done alot of auditioning to very good speakers (Dynaudio, Revel, Audio Physic, Sonus Faber, etc) before choosing the N803s. The B&Ws had the most natural sound to my ears but I will have...
Name 3 classic mini-monitors worth keeping- Why? I've got to mention the B&W Silver Signatures. Awesome.
Hum noise. You probably need to get an in-line ground lifter for your cable. A company called Viewsonics makes one for around $30.
B&W 803N versus Revel Gems Which is Better How large is the room and what amplification are you using?
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi? I second Bowbow. B&W's have a sound of their own just like every other speaker and if you like it or not it's just a matter of personal taste. I, among others, feel that they make some phenominal sounding products (N802 for example) and repres...
CLEAN RECORDS WITH WHAT????? Gmc...Dick Doctor?!? Ouch, that sounds like it's really for the Analog Freaks!
MC cartridge that best mates with RB300 arm.... MCs are not tricky at all matching to the RB300. For a cart in the $500 range I would recommend the Benz Micro ACE. My only caution would be to stay away from Grado MM carts because they can hum on Rega tables.
NEW Musical Fidelity DAC Here's an interesting bit of information - Sam Tellig's (not his real name) graphic design company does the layout for the Audio Advisor catalog which was the exclusive Musical Fidelity dealer in the US. Not to say that the MF gear is not good but...
Turntable/Arm in 1500-2000 Range When it's available definately check out the VPI Aries Scout which looks like it's going to be a steal for $1500.
NEW Musical Fidelity DAC I think it retails for around $1200. It is pretty basic, no volume control just a switch on the back to go from 96k to 192k.
What's the best sounding SS or Tube linestage pre? If you are just using one source and your amps don't present a wicked load to drive I would highly recommend the Placette Audio passive volume control. It is very transparent and neutral and really shines with SACD and other high resolution source...
NEW Musical Fidelity DAC The new MF DAC sounds quite good and gives alot of performance for the money. It still isn't as good as a $3500 single box unit (Linn Ikemi, Krell KAV-280cd, Meridian 508/24) but for the price it gets awfully close. If you have an older CD player ...
Rotel Users - Which Amp to Choose The Rotel 1070 sounds great with the 602s and one advantage to buying new is the five year warranty from Rotel. These amps also benefit from aftermarket power cords: deeper bass, blacker background, etc.PS - Although the new Rotels share a similar... |
