Nordost Power Cables - my latest experience
Just be careful if you have the older design Q bases. I pulled a cord out a few years ago and a white lightning bolt nearly took me out. I pulled it without securing the base  which was a mistake. They graciously replaced it with a new one but I a...
Grateful Dead- Sotheby's Auction
It's amazing what people will pay for American culture. One of those McIntosh amps went for $378,000. I had one of those old SS amps and it sounded like the voice was coming out of a basketball sized hole in the singers chest cavity.
Grateful Dead- Sotheby's Auction
https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2021/from-the-vault-property-from-the-grateful-dead-and-frie...I like the story behind this one. With this much acid that mask machine will talk.
Opinions Please - New Prodduction Sophia EL34ST Coke Bottle
Any other members try the above tubes? I've used the newer Mullards, EH. Any comparisons appreciated.
Reviewing the fabulous Silversmith Fidelium Speaker Cables
Has anyone compared the Fidelium to something like a Nordost Frey 2?
Sugden/Allnic or Luxman L-509X?
Wahoostewjr- curious is the Sugden a little more neutral than the Luxman? I’ve owned various Luxman amps for 20 years and one day I just stepped away from the golden tone and never looked back. I also have a A21 that was a soundstage champ but I f...
SET the best?
@Atmosphere - boring is kind of crude for my description so I'll tell you what my 10 year old at the time said- We were listening to Metallica comparing the Luxman 590AXII to the SPEC (intro integrated but like $6K) with Devore Nines. He thought th...
Speakers Damaged via FedEx, A Neverending Love Story
I once bought a pair of Spendor D7's from TMR. They were in the original double box plus they rigged up a third box with some foam board inside and one sheet taped to the exterior (all snug). They showed up without any damage. As a hobbyist, it's ...
SET the best?
A really nice sounding class d amp is the SPEC but I found it to get a bit boring over time. I enjoy a certain amount of variety. Have you heard the SPEC Ralph? When is yours coming out and what’s the price point?
Tube rolling on Leven CS 600
I’ve owned Devore speakers since 2008 including the O/93 for 6 months or so. The mids on that speaker were not for me. I tried a couple amps and the A23 before moving on.
Tube rolling on Leven CS 600
I've used the GL KT66 in this amp. They soften things a little but also seem to have slightly less in the way of focus with the O/93. It depends on what you are after.
Are Fall Sales Leveling Out in the Used Market?
I’m just noticing better quality inventory lately than over the past year- many Pass, Vac, Aesthetix, Coda, etc. Last year it was one or two questionable amps and some McIntosh collectibles at 300% over value.  So some are saying these are the res...
Are you also leaving free (virtually) performance on the table?
@lemonhaze search cape cod polish cloth. It’s a cloth that cleans and shines metals without abrasion or liquids.
Is bass the most important frequency band?
We all differ in this narrow field. My priority is a midrange that is real, alive and clear. Main speaker bass down to 30. I don't think a sub has much business playing above 32-34 ever. Treble that is clean and silky with no jagged edges- there's...
Stereophiles 2021 Recommended Components is now on line.
I'm  a believer in the 10,000 hour rule. Nobody just stepped into this list- unless it was a family business. Sure, some are better at networking and building international business relationships. Some have more marketing prowess and interpersonal...
