Close your eyes and hear the music ?
The less senses the mind needs to process the better. Agree with most of the above. I think it's important to listen mindfully on a regular basis in the pursuit to better fidelity. It you only listen deeply when you upgrade some part of your syste...

2022 Arrived today with Eddie Van Halen on the cover. Judging by the $110,000 worth of Koetsu cartridges on one page with quotes from Art Dudley, I'd say the high end isn't going anywhere anytime soon. When did Yamaha the inside of Yamaha amps sta...
Products you added to your system in 2021 that made most impact to your music enjoyment
Devore O/93 to Verity Otello. Leben to Audio Note.
Choosing the right equipment
As buffer so eloquently stated, ask your dad for his thoughts. He might find solid state gear fatiguing if he had tubes, or who knows, maybe he is looking for SS for simplicity. Hard to know. I'm not one to typically recommend Chinese gear but at...
Bully pulpits
I’ve owned the Nordost QX4 and QB8 together with Frey 2 cabling and it added a vibrancy and 'your are there' perception to my system. A few times my wife and I had our kids turn the QX4 off and in a blind test and we both heard the difference 10/1...
Bully pulpits
I remember taking an elective in college on eastern thought. One of the topics was thought- reactive vs creative. There is nothing wrong with reacting strongly when called for, but to react strongly to something that many likely laugh at, should b...
Not Sure If This Is OK Here, But Here Goes
Just tell the guy your looking for a local sale. Too many variables and unknowns. Unless like Waltersalas says, the guys packing 2-3 digit feedback.
What, in your opinion, should the rules be for YouTube Reviews?
There is typically some type of code of ethics required for professional associations. I don't think any reviewers are held to a nationally recognized standard. I'd guess some are making money from advertising hits, some are getting a magazine sal...
What, in your opinion, should the rules be for YouTube Reviews?
No rules just a healthy skepticism because they are learning as they go, which is fine, but they try to give high level advice with low level knowledge. There are exceptions.

@Ozzy Did you pull that cable off your fridge yet? Where's the beef?
How do you know when a stereo sounds good?
I listen and the music draws me in to stay. What Mapman said. Plus: There is some magic between the speakers- a heavenly illumination . My wife sings more. More genres are enjoyed. When I still tinker but more to explore possibilities ...
Bought the wrong subwoofer!
I had one of the old Rel subs. I rebuilt the amp and the woofer needed to be replaced at about 20 years. I ordered one from Volt in the UK, they still make the same driver.  It was a good sub. I think bass is one of the last things audiophiles un...
Bought the wrong subwoofer!
I’ve owned three Rel subs and also own an SVS. The Rel’s have a built in line level adapter. Most Rel fans like to connect their subs off the amps speaker terminals with the speakon connector (Zu has this connection too). You might consider buyin...

Listening to music I don’t particularly like
Roon radio plays often in my house. I tune it out until something good comes on. At that point you can save that song to a playlist and later start the playlist from that song. I would call that exploration. Saved songs typically have a good sound...
