Not much talk about Yamaha turntables.
I know the OP is talking about "new" Yamaha TT but a lot of the conversation is about the vintage Yamaha TT from back in their "Glory" years. I have a Yamaha linear tracker, the PX-3 that is an outstanding performer after a little maintenance work...
Pass and ARC
Just use any decent quality interconnect and your good. If an interconnect starts to alter the sound it's a sign that there is something wrong with it.BillWojo
Pass and ARC
My Altec's are 99 db sensitivity and my 1983 Audio Research SP8 preamp doesn't make any noise and I do use the phono stage on it. I doubt that Ref 2 is going to be an issue. ARC uses top notch parts in it's gear.BillWojo
What does a tonearm contribute to the sound of a turntable?
Pretty much and if everything is of decent quality it should be fine, don't fret about it. Now some will say that your losing tons of signal if your leads from the cartridge to the preamp are not one continuous lead but I say BS. Any decent connec...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
That is a rich mans format, everything about it is expensive. I have come across some great deals on the upper end tape decks and have had to walk away. I know how good they sound and they really are sexy machines but I'd rather save the money for...
Will a Rega P6 work with a Denon 103r,103D .Sumiko Blue Point Special cartridges
Technics is a much better table with a full range of adjustments and pitch perfect speed control unlike the Rega.BillWojo
Do I need an overhang gauge, in addition to a protractor to position cartridge correctly?
If you have a removable headshell and use the protractor to set up your cartridge perfectly and are happy with the alignment than here is a tip.Measure from the end of the headshell seat, including the rubber ring to the stylus tip. Record that me...
Custom Plating for amplifier faceplate......any possible problems
That looks very classy in copper. You have to love the look! Great job.BillWojo
Break in time that extends to months or maybe even years!!
Caps can be broken in on simple fixture consisting of a variable voltage supply modulated with an audio signal. There are plans out there to build them cheaply. You can gang lots of caps onto the same fixture and run it indefinitely. Any manufactu...
For efficient speakers, how much difference does an amp really make?
93db speakers are not that efficient. They will take some power to drive. I use Altec speakers that are around 99db and drive them with Mac MC40 monoblock tube amps. At normal listening levels (loud) I'm not using even a watt of power. If I crank ...
6922 Amperex PQ White label... D or O-getter? Holland or Hicksville?
It's funny, I'm reading the thread and laying on my desk, who knows where I got it from is an Phillips MiniWatt E88CC Special Quality gold pin tube with a D getter, made in Holland.Need to check it out sometime although I don't have any gear that ...
What was wrong with the P-mount ?
P-mount came out to late, everyone was switching to CD so it kind of fizzled out. It did have a lot going for it and a number of manufactures started making them, there were even some pretty darn good ones but the whole TT industry was in a tailsp...
SUT vs. Phono preamp
@stereo5 that is good to know. I have a set of Cinemag 1254 transformers sitting here for a project. Now I can’t wait to hear them.BillWojo
SUT vs. Phono preamp
I use a SUT for my Denon DL-103 carts. I based my decision on popular opinion plus the fact that it is a passive device. A well built SUT should be dead quiet as there is only a transformer used to boost the voltage. You may have to try different ...
Help with cartridge
Glad it's working out for you and you have it on a cool deck as well. Actually your whole vinyl setup is pretty nice. Hope you still have all your records as well.BillWojo
