What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes?
@sls883  Have some October Project on my watchlist. Thanks
Cary SLP 98 users, past and present, are there any left?
@immatthewj  I am not listening to the JJ tubes. I should probably just box them up as it's my understanding that I don't need them as long as I'm using a different phono stage. I should just be hearing the EH 6SN7 tubes which are not big favorit...

@immatthewj  OK, so I went back and read this thread. Interesting for sure. It would appear that not quite "full open" might be best? Hard to say for sure but listening to how each one behaves is probably the only real solution. There are so many...
If anyone is still looking for a SLP-98
@immatthewj  It has been very informative. I'm happy too.

@immatthewj  I took it as the offhand joke but considered that I had sort of taken over the thread as well. All good, my apology to your apology to.................and so on. :)

@decooney  Thanks for this. I think I'm comfortable with it after what you say. It gets warm, not what I'd call hot. I could leave my hand on easily without discomfort.  Where do you normally have your separate channel volume controls? I've been...

@immatthewj  I didn't mean to hijack your thread but I guess I more or less did take it over. I should be more mindful in the future. Sorry.

@harpo75  Yup, I've read about the Sweet Little Preamp and the 98 significance. Same with the 80. 90. 94 and the 05 I think. Apparently, Dennis Had used this "code" in a number of builds, at least preamps. Maybe he had some meaning behind all the...

@decooney  I have to say that everything was very well packed and I don't see how anything could have been damaged in shipping without throwing it off a building. Box was not damaged at all, preamp and PS were individually wrapped very well in la...

@dmk_calgary  I will have to check out some OS and AP re-issues. A lot of re-master stuff was terrible but this is different. I guess this is why people stream, it's so easy to check something out without buying it. Thanks for the suggestions.

@texasblues1959  I found Pat Metheny in my Cd collection. Not really sure how it got there but I'll give it a listen. It does get mentioned here and there.

@inna  I will check on that. I'll try most anything once. Cd's can usually be found for just a few bucks. I will not call you names. :) I have several Von Karajan recordings. Most are on good labels. Haven't started listening to them yet but I'l...

@richardbrand  Great story. You must have been the talk of every airport you went through. :) Quite a trip. Doubt I'll find the Benjamin Britten LP in my collection but you never know. I still have my father in law's collection to look through. ...
What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes?
@dogberry  Yes, that must be it. I don't have the original jacket.  I wondered if it was Vivaldi Op 3 but wasn't sure. That would explain why I couldn't find it in Op 3 recordings but I did find it under Vanguard Op 3 and got confused. I'm no exp...
What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes?
@richardbrand  Most of my classical collection is made up of very old records (50's 60's and 70's) and a few cds. I would pick them up at garage sales and thrift stores, looking for certain labels, artists and conductors whose name I recognized. ...
