What stylus do Shure V15 users prefer?
@big_greg  I have read the 500 hour claim as well but even that seems low to me. I was kind of shocked when I read that the one I bought said 150 hours. That would be terrible. I asked the seller about it, the fact that they said it was MR etc an...
What stylus do Shure V15 users prefer?
@jasonbourne71  I have thought the very same thing, especially after reading the life expectancy on the JICO. Have you ever heard of a stylus that is expected to last only 150 hours? It's a new one on me. I have a few things to send to VAS and th...
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
Thanks for all the replies. Much appreciated. The gloves that I use are ones that I have for handling coins, just plain white cloth, made for keeping fingerprints off of valuable coins. I value my tubes much as much as I do my coin collection. Man...
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
@hilde45  Do you remove teeth first or leave them in your mouth?
Cary SLP 98 users, past and present, are there any left?
By source do you mean like Cd player instead of the Linn? I have been mostly checking with Cd because I don't completely trust my cartridge and have been rolling tubes in and out of the Cary phono stage as well. The Cd has been my quick reference ...
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
Thanks all. I was never concerned that my skin oil would penetrate the glass but wondered if it could more or less "burn" to it. Some people have marked with some sort of paint on their tubes. I don't but I suppose if they use the right stuff, it ...
Linn users, what is your preference for your platter mat?
@slaw  So, is that felt only?
Cary SLP 98 users, past and present, are there any left?
@immatthewj  I think so, it sounds mostly good to me. Still on the cheap tubes and letting them burn in. That considered, I think it sounds very good.  Sometimes I think maybe the Linn cartridge is worn down. I tried to put my FR cartridge on th...
Linn users, what is your preference for your platter mat?
@mwh777  I have read a lot of good reviews about the herbie mat. If I can't find you, I can always just buy one and see what I think but I'll see what I can find. Thanks
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
@mulveling  Interesting. I haven't dropped any yet but they do not improve grip, that's for sure.  Hated the halogens, at least in the house. Good for starting fires, not much else.  OTOH, I had halogen bulbs in my truck that lasted over 120k mi...
Linn users, what is your preference for your platter mat?
@mwh777  I am in the US. NE MO as stated above. Curious as to what is better? Not saying that you're wrong, I just am curious about what improves.  I do consider getting a jig if I keep this rig for the long term. I see no reason not to so far. ...
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
@newton_john  Kind of a sad story, really. I'm just glad that everyone came to their senses and kept analog alive and I'm very glad that I never got rid of mine.
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
@newton_john  I briefly entertained the idea of replacing old vinyl records with new Cd's, probably sometime in the 90's, not sure when. I soon found that the new Cd's that I would buy, had somehow lost a great deal of the original information (m...
Linn users, what is your preference for your platter mat?
I don't really have a problem with the felt. Just wondering what other Linn users have done. Looks like mostly felt, at least so far.
Cary SLP 98 users, past and present, are there any left?
@immatthewj  I think Cary says to leave in standby mode 24/7. I don't. Seems counterproductive to me to keep any part of the tubes working all the time. Plus, I'm anal about leaving anything on unattended. Hazards of being a retired firefighter. ...
