Tube upgrade for VAC Ren 30/30 I agree with Tvad...I have owned 4 different VAC 30/30 amps over the last 12 years all the way up to the Phi 30/30, and have rolled a lot of tubes in them all. I certainly heard differences between them, but none were clearly better than others......
Please recommend a musical sub for me I have a small music room with dimensions similar to yours, and have tried quite a few different subs to match with my 3A de Capo i's. Good room treatments are a MUST, and I ended up with 2 large tube traps in the front corners, 2 smaller ones in ...
Will a PS 300 provide enough juice? No, it will certainly restrict dynamics and make it sound rather flat if it works at all. The 300 will work fine for your front-end gear, but not for a tube amp even of this size.
Variac vs. Isolation vs. Balanced Transformer? ALL Mine had no wires coming off of it, just screw terminals with nuts to wire your primaries and secondaries to. You can just do a search for Signal DU-2 transformer and you will find some electronics dealers that either stock or order them for you. ...
Variac vs. Isolation vs. Balanced Transformer? ALL Yes, a dedicated line is the first step, a good outlet, properly treated room, and correct speaker placement are often the least costly "tweaks" that all add up. I am using the Signal DU-2 transformer. It is rated at 2Kv and 18 amps as an isolatio...
Variac vs. Isolation vs. Balanced Transformer? ALL I posted a similar question about 6 months ago on Audiogon, in reference to a high voltage problem I have at my location. I have been using an older tube amp that was not designed to run on higher voltages, and my lines are giving me a pretty cons...
Tube question for Berning EA-230 amp owners... Thanks guys! Yes, I too have heard just slight differences when rolling other 6JN6's, and very noticeable sonic tonal and detail differences with both the input and driver tubes. The Sylvania 6SN7's had great speed, dynamics and detail, but were t...
Audiophile quality variacs to decrease voltage? It appears that my neighbors also have the same high voltage in the subdivision. I will take your advice and try to find someone there who knows something about it. I doubt they can solve the problem, but maybe I can find out why. Spending money w...
Audiophile quality variacs to decrease voltage? Thanks Microstrip and Magnumpi205. I looked into the one on the Jon Risch website, and it looks like it would be a great choice if I were able to make the time for such a project. I like the idea of also being able to run it as a balanced power de...
Audiophile quality variacs to decrease voltage? I'll let you know what I discover Albert... Too bad they don't come standard with Porterports built-in! Thanks so much for your help and suggestions. Audiogon needs more members like you!
Audiophile quality variacs to decrease voltage? Thank you everyone for all of your helpful suggestions. I will double check my meter as Eldartford said for starters. If my voltage is still high, then I will consider the Hammond Step-down transformer at $360. The Tice Titan/Powerblock would be ni...
Matching speaker cables to Magnepan MMG's Try The Speltz Anti-cables for the MMG's. They transmit a great deal of energy and current, which the Maggies need. Tight and fast bass too! They are more in line with the cost of the speakers as well.
BPT 3.5 & SP Owners I never had any noise problems or bad hum with my 3.5 either. Not audible at all from the listening area 10 ft away, and barely noticeable from 3-4 ft next to it. It worked extremely well with my front-end, and I had added benefits when running my...
Best SS amp for Zu Druid Mk IV speakers Try the Amp 1 integrated by Peter Daniel, or one of his Patek amps if you have a pre-amp. Either bring out the dynamics, detail, and texture that the Druids are known for.
how good are the non os dacs? Undertow did a very good job of describing what I hear as differences between the two... He said it better than I could have. NOS dacs have plenty of detail, but as he stated OS dacs produce a soundstage that seems more airy or larger in an artifi... |
