How to read speaker sensitivity rating?
I am certain that the specs. on the SPL ratings for the Kappa 9's are off by a long shot....CERTAINLY not 102db with 1 watt of input. I owned a pair about 25 years back, and would say they are more in the area of 83 db SPL at 1 meter and 1 watt in...
System Synergy
System synergy and enjoying the music is certainly what our hobby is all about. It is not just a matter of proper TONAL balance, but instead, discovering what components and cables work well together to compliment each other, our listening prefere...
Recommend a 6922 input tube for CJ Premier 140
I agree with Onemug and his suggestion. Wait until you receive the amp and get it settled into your system. After listening for a week or so, you should be able to get a feel of whether you want things warmer, leaner, faster etc. than the sound co...
How to remove tarnish from OLD Silver wire?
I would not worry too much about tarnish on the wire. It might be a good idea to clean off just the contact area on the ends before terminating them. I don't think it will make much of a sonic difference for the rest of the wire unless it is terri...
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
You will probably need just one per speaker if they only go across 6 feet of carpet once coming out of the wall.
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
You might check with your installer to see if it would be easier for them to run 2 separate runs of the solid core cable through the walls at a time if you were thinking of having the cables bi-wired on the amp end. The solid core wires are fairly...
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
I did not know you were were looking to bi-wire. I would guess, in that case, you would have to double the price for twice as much wire. I would not think that they would have to charge quite so much extra $ for 4 more spades on the speaker ends. ...
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
Merrill;I would not recommend using the standard 12 or 14 gauge solid core "house wire" as Morrow suggested as a speaker wire. It has heavy insulation all around, and sonically it is rather harsh and edgy. I have experimented with it for both AC c...
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality
With runs of this length, I would steer away from multi-stranded cables with heavy coatings. Look into some of the solid-core high purity copper cables on Audiogon for $10/ft. They are well suited for long runs and high-current amps like yours, th...
Sound diffusion panels--do they reduce brightness?
Beautiful looking room! Are you still using the same APC power conditioner for all your gear? I might suggest running your amp direct to the wall first, then if the brightness persists, try doing without the APC or replacing it.
New production 6SL7 Tubes whats the most popular?
Does the amp use 6SN7's as an input tube and 6SL7's for a driver, or vice-versa?
Power cable for quiet background
One I have found that has an almost spooky-quiet background is the VH Audio Air-Sine cord. They tend to sell for around $400 on the used market in standard lengths. Vocals tend to sound so real with this cable on either source or amps.
Emotiva ERC-1 cd player
Yes, I have spent quite a bit of time listening to it, and it sounds fantastic at the price point. The build quality is outstanding, as is the remote control. It is very dynamic sounding, with lots of drive, energy, detail, and bass punch. It does...
good stand speakers with good low end
Revel M20s have fantastic low end for a small bookshelf, sound great, and have bass and treble adjustments as well. Used ones sell for right at your price limit.
Toddler-Friendly Budget Speakers?
I followed the same routine that Kurt mentioned above with my twins when they were young, and it has worked perfectly for me as well. Start them out when they are young, and if you are lucky, you won't have to compromise too much on your gear choi...
