Small room Speaker suggestions
Von Schweikert VR-2 is a good moderately priced speaker. Very particular about room placement but with the variable "ambiance" tweeter in back and the ability to over stuff the port with material of choice you can make them sound however you like....
Jazz Gems
Good idea for a thread. Keep the recomendations coming.
Jadis/Spendor system
Have you tried any of the older Spendors like the S8 or S6. They were what the new "e" series replaced. They were beter speakers in my opinion. I would trade for a pair of S8's personaly. There is nothing wrong with the S5e but they do sound kind ...
12yr old NAD receiver or new?
The new NAD C720BEE is a great receiver for future flexability (A+B speaker outputs, dual zone capability). Plus it sounds good too. If it has extra inputs that you are not going to use you can simply ignor them (that is not where the extra $$$ in...
DENON DVD-5910: anyone heard it, or bought it yet?
Good player. Not overwhelming for the money though. Great build quality. Not a terribly logical OSD. Compare to Sony 999 or the new version that is not out yet. Chances are teh Sony will be better in many respects. I like the 999 for a good all-ar...
best harman kardon speakers &monitors
Are you talking about Harmon/Kardon branded speakers or speaker manufacturers associated with Harmon International?Harmon International owns JBL, Infinity, Revel, and SoundCraft. I'm sure the super high priced JBL's sound ok. I know that the super...
"Commercial" plasma screens the real deal for HT?
The way a television deals with movement involves the scaler not the glass. If all of the rest of the specs on a set look impresive but the scaler is not up to par the image is going to look bad or atleast not as good as that of other displays wit...
"Commercial" plasma screens the real deal for HT?
Front projection is teh biggest bang for the buck. However, if you want a flat pannel and are thinking about a Comercial version you may want to talk to an ISF guy. Some of the comercial displays are the same as Consumer without bells and whistles...
Anyone try center backs this way???????........
If you are using cheap receiver and cheap speakers this may (and does in some rooms) work very well. It gives a more diffuse soundfield in the rear if you are sitting in close proximity to the surround speakers. For good mid-fi or high-end componen...
Center Ch help.
I have heard some apparently mismatched center/main set-ups that sound very good in spite of speaker design differences. If you do not watch movies that much and are not terribly critical of the sound coming out of your center channel you could ge...
A/V Receiver Recommendations Under 800.00
NAD T743, T753, Sony ES DA1000 (not DA2000)T753 big bang for the buck but Retails for $999. Worth the money for future flex. (main in/pre out, easy to use, drives most speakers well).
Speaker upgrade question...
The ML Aeon i is a good speaker for the money. The ML Ascent i is a better speaker for more money. THey like power and need some freedom in positioning to get ideal sound out of them. Depending on room size and listening position you will want a g...
Sub-$1000 preamp recommedations sought
NAD has a good pre for $600.Jolida for $1,000.
Looking for quality CD changer
Another vote for the Sony 555. Good double-duty player. Video processing features are great and disc change while in random play mode is about as fast as you can expect. SACD playback a plus as well.

Tburn's advice is dead on. Cost is small rellatively speaking and reward is high.As far as the walls and insulation it may be a good idea to type in room dimensions into an in-room frequency response Excell spreadsheet to find the problem frequenc...
