Best Transport with Museatex Bitstream DAC I have two bistreams now, one was just modified and I am letting it break in. Will compare them this weekend.
Looking for CD player with volume control? The Opus 21 is a very mice CDP with volume control but it requires a good power cord. The Wadia 861 was a better sounding unit with the stock power cord. The Shanling was just OK compared to these units. I also had a completely modified Shanling a...

Do you know anyone who repairs Chiro amps? Kinergetics is way out of business and the guy who was their tech no longer repairs the amps. If you ever find anyone, please email me as I have a Kinergetics amp that will not come off standby mode.Happy Listening.

replacing the volume control in an inexpensive pre TKD makes a very good volume control but you have to make sure it will fit inside the unit without much modification. I used one in an old Counterpoint preamp that replaced the original carbon pot. The new one is a plastic pot. I looked at the bet...
Tyler and Acoustic Zen reviews in TAS I gave up on reading reviews a long time ago as reviews are flawed and so are the reviewers, not to mention their equipment and room conditions. If you could see what I have seen you would wonder how some reviewers get to be reviewers at all. I kn...

which power conditioner unit? There are a few DIY filters that you can istall on each of your dedicated power lines (assuming you have dedicated lines). I think the Magnam website is where I got my info and I found this to be the best of what I have heard versus the thousands ...
taming a nasty treble response Not sure what is under your CDP but try a 16" bike inner tube and see what happens to the sound. Tubes run about $4.00.Happy Listening.
Guitar player? , What model do you own or play? Thirty different models but mainly use a '60s strat and 70s Les Paul modified. For change of pace the a '60s tele, ES-175, ES-330 and 335 are some of the favorites I use depending on the music I play along to.Have fun.

Preamp to go with a Pass Labs X250 ? The X-1 is a neutral sounding preamp and will not add the tube sound that you mention. The best preamp that I have heard with the X-250 was the Tom Evans Vibe (without the upgraded power supply), it smoked all the others that I tried (12 in total)...
Is the Pass Labs X350.5 and X1 "warm"? The X-1 preamp is not a warm sounding preamp, very neutral. The X-250 that I owned was to the warm side of the midway point but nothing like tube warmth.Hope this helps.
B&W 802D + Pass Labs X350.5 a good match? The Pass would be a good overall choice and so would the Plinius SA-102.Happy Listening. |
