Looking to get into tubes on the cheap
I picked up a used Jolida Fusion preamp last summer for about $700 and put it in my bedroom system (Integra 80.3 AVP and Wyred4Sound ST-1000 MK2 amp) and it provided an improvement over the 2 channel audio of the Integra, not a dramatic one though...
Any good reasons to use transistor phono stage and line level preamp instead of tube ?
I have both tube (Manley Chinook, Jolida JD-9) and solid state (Musical Surroundings Nova Phonomena) phono pre-amps.  The size of the units may be another factor to take into consideration. The Phonomena takes up less space than the other units, b...
Cable info
I would echo the suggestion of spending your money on a better external DAC than the one in the Node 2.  I can't see the logic in spending a lot of money to replace the already good interconnects you have to try to improve the sound quality of a D...
Wyred 4 Sound Class D Mono blocks SX 1000 question
"Obsolete" in what way?  I have a Wyred ST-1000 MKII (and had a ST-500).  They are great amps and as cool as they run it seems like they should last a good long time.
Advice Needed: Bluesound Node vs Vault
I was going to get the Node 2i and stopped by my dealer to buy one.  We went through the specs between the Node 2 and 2i and there wasn't anything new in the 2i that mattered to me and he had a couple of the Node 2s coming in from a trade in.  I w...
Rythmik subwoofer
I don't have Magnepans, but I have owned many subwoofers and I don't think you can go wrong with Rythmik, SVS, or also Power Sound Audio for well made "reasonably" priced subs.  I've owned a couple of HSU subs and was less impressed with them.  I ...
MidFi multi channel solution needed for HT.
I think you're better off getting separates.  A dedicated amp is going to produce more power and the sound quality should be better.  I've had some nice AVRs, my last one being the Onkyo TX-NR3007.  Processors change and you may end up upgrading e...
Advice Needed: Bluesound Node vs Vault
I don't want to have to rip all my CDs again and could not see any reason to purchase the Vault over the Node 2. I've already ripped hundreds of CDs to an external hard drive that is visible on my network. They are neatly organized by artist...
Has anybody compared the Brooklyn DAC or Brooklyn DAC plus to the Liberty DAC
@theo I have the Vega in a different system, so have not compared them side by side.  I have the first version of the Vega by the way.  It's in my main system and I feed my Oppo UDP-203 and Bluesound Node 2 into the Vega.  It sounds wonderful.  I ...
Cartridge recommendations
I have a Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood and have broken the cantilever not once, but twice.  I had it re-tipped again but am afraid to use it.  If you can afford a little more, get a Hana SL.  They are fantastic.  I have one on my Clearaudio Emotion.  T...
Has anybody compared the Brooklyn DAC or Brooklyn DAC plus to the Liberty DAC
I have the Liberty and like it very much.  I didn't need the preamp and was looking for a reasonably priced DAC that could do MQA.  I haven't compared to the Brooklyn.  Here are some of the DACs I have or have had to compare it to - Auralic Vega, ...
Bluesound Vault 2
I have a Bluesound Node 2.  I have ripped my CDs to an external hard drive and can access them through my network with the Node 2 (and other devices).  I'd rather have them on a standard hard drive that I can easily back up and replace.  Perhaps t...
Is Marantz AV8805 good enough pre amp for McIntosh MC8207
I recently replaced my Marantz AV8801 (two generations removed from the AV8805) with a refurbished Marantz AV7704.  The price difference was over $3K.  If your main interest is home theater and you don't need some of the extra connections availabl...
dumb question, streaming music to a preamp?
Bluesound just came out with the Node 2i.  It's $499, but you may be able to pick up the previous Node 2 for quite a bit less now.  I just ordered one for $200 from my local dealer who took some in on trade.  I should have it in a few days and pla...
Spotify vs. Apple Music vs. Google Play vs. Tidal: Which is Best
I've never tried Spotify so can't say that Tidal is "better", but I chose Tidal because of the availability of Master quality albums.  I do almost all my Tidal listening on decent systems and can hear noticeable differences in sound quality when c...
