Re-tipped phono cartridges
I've had Andy Kim retip my Clearaudio Virtuoso.  Not because the stylus was worn, but because I broke the cantilever.  I hate Clearaudio's design, the cantilevers stick out way in front of the cart.  I couldn't detect any difference in sound and w...

Fan to cool room?
I recently had a ductless mini-split installed.  A lot more expensive than a fan, but also quieter and more effective.

What brands tend to have the worst resale value?
I guess I only paid $135 for the LAB-440.  It sold for $219 new back in the early 80's.

This is like asking what camera a picture was taken with.  People spend all kinds of money on different camera bodies, but most people wouldn't be able to pick out a shot taken with a cell phone vs a $5,000 DSLR and few if any could say that image...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I was adding some records to Discogs database this morning and when I went to enter Genesis Foxtrot the description said the version I have is a mispress with side A's songs repeated on both sides.  Apparently this is a "collectible".  The sad thi...

Streaming vs. CD
What is dying is computer audio as streaming has taken over. Darn it, I didn't get the memo about this!  Or maybe "computer audio" is something different than what I consider computer audio.  I spend a lot of time at my computer(s) and have two...
Mapleshade or Butcher Block Acoustics
The ones mentioned in the original post both look nice. I went cheap and bought some Boos Block Hard Rock maple cutting boards for under my monoblocks and my Audio Research integrated. I bought them more for practical purposes than for sound. I di...
