How do you judge your system's neutrality? About 2 months ago or so, I auditioned 2 speakers (call them Brand P and Brand X) at a dealer. Many members would probably say that Brand X was the better speaker hands down, and I respect personal opinions. But here's what I found bizarre. The Br...
High Current vs high power Agree with Al's last post. Stats, IMO, while not controlling factors, are nonetheless relevant and informative. As I posted some time ago, I rued matching my ARC tube amp with my Paradigm Sig 8 v3 speakers. The S8s looked like the most tube unfrien...
audio research REF 150 Finally took the leap. Picked up a preowned Ref 150 a few days ago. I'll spare the Forum with the usual audiophile-babble in describing the Ref 150. Suffice to say that IMO the comment in ARC's sales literature that the Ref 150 "dominates" one's s...
High Current vs high power Thank you Bombaywalla. Thanks also to Al and Ralph.
Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore. Yeah, I caught that blip on the web a few days ago. I thought she was one of the most talented vocalist of her generation. One serious cutie-pie too. Did you ever see her album cover pic wearing roller skating shorty shorts. My wife took the album...
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall Vic ... when I reach my biblical 120, I plan to take my ARC gear with me. ;>')
High Current vs high power Zd ... more than you know, I agree with what you said about live auditions. A while back, I posted a comment about road testing two sets of speakers at a dealer friend's shop. Coincidentally, he had just taken in trade an ARC VS-115 tube amp, whic...
High Current vs high power Al and Ralph, it amazes me how this technical issue just keeps on giving. I think the whole subject could be mooted if every speaker on the market was required to have an 8 ohm ruler flat impedance curve and zero phase angle curve as a function of...
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall Don .... with respect, give me a break. I own an ARC PH-8 phono stage which also has 58 db of gain. The PH-8 can handle cartridges with output as low as .5 mV, such as my Lyra Kleos. I think many members would agree that the Lyra Delos and Kleos a...
has anyone else tried Lloyd Walkers latest tweak Thanks Al. Look, back in the 80s, pet rocks were the rage. I still have my first pet rock. Some people like rocks, some like crystals. I like pyramids. ;-')
has anyone else tried Lloyd Walkers latest tweak Lewm ... remember the Seinfeld piece when George went to a pyramid doctor to save money. We shouldn't underestimate pyramid power. Hopefully, our EE tech members Almarg and Ralph (Atmasphere) will chime in and explain the science. I'm surprised th...
has anyone else tried Lloyd Walkers latest tweak And what about pyramids? Try this DIY tweak. Pick up 8 straight balsa wood strips at a hobby shop. Glue 4 pieces of exact length together and make a perfect square bottom base. Then glue 4 more pieces together to form the pyramid. The bottom ends ...
Do we still need 6550 or KT88 tubes? Concur with positive comments about KT-120. Much more dynamic, open and great bass response. Never had a KT-120 blow accept when brand new, occasionally one or two arc'd and took out a bias resister. But that also happened with Winged "C" 6550s.
VPI 3D tonearm String...... Mike, Jack and Harry are super accommodating. I would ask one of them to do you a favor and overnight mail/deliver the correct counterweight.
Tube amp repair recommendations - Western NY Tubes..., did I blink, but I don't recall seeing that you mentioned the brand make of your amp. Also, perhaps another blink, but did you mention the problem you are having? I think the answers to these questions may direct a logical course of acti... |
