VPI 3D tonearm I own an upgraded Classic "2.5" which is essentially the basic Classic plinth with a Classic 3 tonearm and base. My cartridge is a Lyra Delos and SS Zephyr as backup. I realize that my VPI rig is pedestrian compared to those who own the Classic 4 ...
Good Listening Lately My brother gave me two boxes of his old vinyl. Every LP I've played so far is in pristine condition. Here's 3 artists that I'm having fun with: Night Hawks; Delbert McClinton; and Johnny's Dance Band. Great music, great R&B rock n' roll.
Speaker advice redux? Thanks Duke -- very interesting tech point. As you may recall, my speakers are Paradigm S8s (v3). The main difference between the v2 and v3 versions is that the 4 woofers are 3 db more efficient. Paradigm changed the voice coil and the motor throw...
KT120 longevity FWIW, I drive my ARC VS-115 with KT-120s. ARC still recommends replacement at 2000 hours. Do they have a longer life? Dunno. Maybe yes if you drive the tubes with quality electrons. I'd call the factory and ask the techies.
Lyra Delos and Soundsmith Jcarr, I own the Delos. I have been told that sytlus life ranges from 1500-2000 hours on the low side to 4500-5000 hours on the high side. I do NOT find the "high side" numbers credible. So, can the Delos stylus be replaced as a stand alone fix, o...
Need Advice on Checking Stylus Uuuhhmm. Captain.. and Nandric. I read your posts and get the point (pun). The way I see it is that stylus wear occurs slowly over time. Therefore, to simply say, use your ears to tell you that if the highs become muddy, or the bass does this or t...
Experience with the Pass Labs XP-15 phono stage? I own the ARC PH-8 and used to own the PH-7. I'm don't know what type of low gain MC cartridge you have in mind. But, FWIW, the PH-7/8 can do a good job with MC cartridges having as little as .5mV output. Admittedly, many of the finer low output M...
Thinking About Upgrading the VPI Tonearm Base String..., I re-read the thread and yes, ... you did say that. And I have to admit your advice is usually spot on. I'll keep the bear paws on the radar screen. As I said, I ordered a maple butcher block slab and rubberized cork feet. Let's see wha...
Thinking About Upgrading the VPI Tonearm Base Did the upgrade. I was a little nervous that I would screw up [pun -- :>')] the installation. That is drilling and tapping new holes. But I did it A-OK. Mike sent me everything I needed, drill hole template, drill bit, tap, screws, etc. The sup...
Anthonyn Cordesman on Edward Snowden Zen...., of course I agree with what you say in principle. 100%. Nevertheless, I believe the risk that a looney group getting its hands on a WMD and using it is NOT just the stuff of Hollywood B-movies. We have 9/11 to prove that. But of course, I...
Anthonyn Cordesman on Edward Snowden Folks, as an attorney, I am somewhat familiar with the US Constitution, particularly the 4th Amendment. It pains me greatly that our country has found it necessary to resort to the intrusive actions that it has taken. But, in times of war and nati...
How Good Is A Marble Slab at Deadening Vibration Just bought a 2" thick maple wood butcher block for my VPI Classic. Also bought 5 rubberized cork feet. I plan to set the butcher block on the cork feet. I'll report back when all the stuff is delivered.Hopefully I'll able to kill the bass rumble ...
Please Help Ambient Bass Resonance Thanks Al -- perfect!
Please Help Ambient Bass Resonance There's another similar thread running. I read comments about using a sheet of balsa wood and using a maple block. I bet I'd have a nice TT surface by sandwiching balsa, then maple, then balsa again. I'll ask here -- where can one purchase a maple...
How Good Is A Marble Slab at Deadening Vibration Where can one buy a maple slab? What is the recommended thickness? |
