cool. I like the responses above about Tidal. Thnx
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Brf ... tubes arc. It's what they do. The problem isn't with the amp ... it's about the nature of tubes. The only fair push back point is that ARC doesn't use circuit breakers. I can't answer that question because I'm not an electrical engineer. A...
Computer Audio..Stream or download?
Got a question about Tidal streaming. How do you do it?? I have a wireless HP PC. Do I use that as the "receiver" and then hook my PC up to the DAC in my DEQX PreMATE?? Check my system for details on my gear. Btw, if I have to use my PC to stream ...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Bdp24 ... you wrote "why so many ARC? Brooks' tech Tom told me he was constantly repairing ARC power amps because when a tube blows in one of them it often takes with it some of the circuit board parts. The tubes aren't fused---ARC uses resistors ...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
I can speak about the Ref 150 SE as compared to the "old" Ref 150. I upgraded my Ref 150 in March.IMO, I think the SE upgrade effected an across the board improvement. I'd say half came from the KT-150 tubes and the other half came from the circui...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Yeah Al,I see what you mean. Not too concerned about sensitivity. My amp is pretty muscular. Also, the low end uses a self powered woofer which should take heat off the amp. Some of the other measurements raise yellow flags for me as well. That sai...
Vandersteen Treo vs 3A Sig as upgrade
Wlutke ... I listened to a pair of Treos several years ago. The speakers were driven by an ARC VS-115 amp. IMO, even though the Treos were presumably set up properly, I was underwhelmed by their performance. I compared the Treos to a pair of Parad...
Vandersteen Treo vs 3A Sig as upgrade
Wlutke ... John Rutan of Audio Connection, Verona, NJ, may know more about Vandies than Richard V himself ... (just kidding). I've worked with John on numerous occasions on other audio matters. He's a top drawer guy. I'm sure Johnny R would be hap...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Al,Logically, I should probably try going "sans" Ref 5 SE (linestage) too and solo it with the PreMATE as my preamp (like you). But I can't bear to part with my beloved ARC gear. I think ... but am admittedly not sure ... that inserting the Ref 5 ...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Hi Al ...anything to report?
Slow adaptation of KT150 by amp mmanufacturers
David, I did the SE upgrade bit with my Ref 150. I think it made a noticeable improvement. I don't think the SE upgrade for the Ref 75 is terribly expensive. Oregonpapa is in 7th heaven with his Ref 75 SE. Check his posts on the Forum.
Slow adaptation of KT150 by amp mmanufacturers
Xti16 ... interesting news bit re the possible introduction of a KT-180 tube. At this point, given the drawn out process I endured with ARC transitioning its current Ref line of amps to use the KT-150, including ARC upgrading a number of its Ref a...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Addendum to my last post ... it occurred to me that there was another factor that may have impressed my stepson other than the DEQX. Namely, since his last visit, I sprung for the SE upgrade to my ARC Ref 150 amp. As many may know, it involved swi...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Thanks for the update Al. I've been offline since Tuesday/Wednesday and haven't been tracking your progress. I looking forward to reading your future reports. As you know, I already shared with you via a PM Larry Owen's general philosophical comme...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Happen to agree with Andrew's last post. Let's be patient while Al noodles his way in setting up his HDP-5. I surmise Al will be able to put this issue into perspective.
