Audio Research VT100 MKII retubing blew resistors
Ditto what Gary (Hifigeek) said. I've read older posts, maybe from Gary, that said changing tubes or making bias adjustments to the VT 100 MkII can be tricky. I'd look for a competent tech, preferably an ARC authorized guy, who knows his way aroun...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Al, more questions than answers. Looking at the step response graphs. The tweeter and mid look pretty closely aligned .. off maybe a couple of mSecs. The woofer step looks unusual. Can you or Andrew explain what I see there??Also, the group delay ...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Thanks Knghifi ... but my wallet is closed for now. I don't have the time, patience or interest to do an audio re-do. What I AM thinking about is signing up for Tidal and stream hi-quality digital in my DEQX PreMATE. Getting too lazy for the CDP a...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Knghifi ... that's a lot of scratch for tubes ... be it Upscale or ARC. Ironically, Upscale charges about $50+ for a KT-120. If I have a "next time," I might check out a Pass or Ayre solid state rig. Both have earned high grades. In the meantime, ...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Knghifi ... not really. The last couple of re-tubes came from ARC because the bias spread on power tubes sourced from a reputable tube vendor drifted too much. Btw, I may have overstated the times tube arcing has taken out bias resisters. I was be...
Any ARC GSPre owners here ?
To repeat what I posted above, I think the GSPre may be an expensive "pretty face." And the GS 150, also a pretty face, and Ref 150 SE may rough equivalents.Kal will be back on Wednesday. Ask his opinion.
DOA tube from Audio Research
Good points Jea48. Also did the OP switch the tubes around to make sure that the problem is the tube and not a burned resister.Btw, there may be an opportunity here. I just checked the ARCDB web site -- News Tab. If you scroll down far enough, the...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Don ... as I said in my posts, I've gone through a lot of ARC gear (linestages/pre; amps; CDPs; phone pre's) over the last 10+ years ...always moving up the line. From a consumer's perspective, I think I'm on solid ground about what I post because...
Any ARC GSPre owners here ?
Joe .... if the review I clipped above is correct re the GSPre and GS150, I urge you to call Kal at ARC and ask him for his views. The GSPre may look pretty, but it's expensive and may be a no-go showboat. IOW, not a cost effective way to spend yo...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Don c55 ... No question about it ... Pass Labs gear has a great reputation. And I am glad that you are enjoying your Pass Labs amp.But let's put your comments into a little perspective. The D125 was introduced in 1988 and discontinued in 1991. My ...
Good, better, best. VPI Classic 1 accessories and upgrades.
Budburma ... good call. Enjoy.
Any ARC GSPre owners here ?
Was surfing on the net while listening to a great Sain San (sp?) piano concerto on my rig. Came across this review that may be of interest to the OP and others: http://www.chattelin.nl/fckfiles/files/Audio%20Research%20Review%20HiFI.pdfInteresting...
Any ARC GSPre owners here ?
Joe ... Yeah, I guess the Ref 5 SE is getting a bit long in the tooth. Just checked the ARCDB website. The SE version was introduced sometime in late 2011. I recall that I had to wait until early 2013 until ARC was ready to upgrade my Ref 5 ... ve...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Lostbears ... I may have overstated the arcing frequency. It really doesn't occur all that often.Yeah ... I'll check the tube bias about once a month, especially with new tubes for the reason you said. Sometimes if I'm bugged about something, I'll...
ARC Ref 75 vs. Ref 75 SE
Bdp24 ... I respectfully disagree with your views about modern ARC amps. I think your car analogy is ridiculous and simply not fair. As to the mysterious Mr. Tom's comment, I don't recall ever seeing burn marks on the circuit boards of any of my A...
