is it time to mention tonearm's length again?
Maybe one of the technically smarter members can better untangle your post than me, but let me give it a try. My tonearm is 10.5 inches long. My recollection from reading something somewhere is that the longer arm, if properly set up, tracks in a ...
Audio Research Ref 5 and Krell amps
Boisehomes, just checked the specs on the LS 26. Seems like most (maybe all) ARC preamps and line stages (including the LS 26) should not have their main outputs loaded with less than 20K Ohms. If you load both output mains, the formula for comput...
Audio Research Ref 5 and Krell amps
Boisehomes, congradulations on the LS26 and best of luck with it. Not quite sure how you intend to load its main outputs, but please check my posts on this issue. In my case, I loaded my Ref 3 main output #1 with my ARC VS-115 and main #2 with my ...

Wayne..., sorry I'm a little confused. In setting up VTA for the 2M, does this 2 degree adjustment mean the back side of the carty should be raised a little via the VTA mechanism. If VTA is raised that way, then the back end of the carty will ride...

Mike should know better. If not Mike, then Harry. It's Yiddish and mean obsessing about something to the point the victim gets a head-ache or very aggravated. The full expression is "don't drey my kupf." Don't give me a headache.

Vinyl...., great news. VPI is a great company and Mike is a top drawer guy!! BTW, did you ask Mike what the word "drey" means??? Gotta tell ya though, what you described was a wierd defect. Glad you're getting a new table.
Any advantages to bi-wiring speakers vs. single
My speakers are set up for bi-wire. May be more "lore than law" but per the manufacturer, bi-wire sounds better than straight wire. Who knows??? Could be hype. But as Ptm... said, also permit bi-amping as well. Most people seem to agree that prope...

Wayne.., how well does yhour Ortofon 2M Black mate with the Classic 1's 10.5i SE arm? I tried it several months ago and had problems. Still not sure if my problems related to compatibility, or the carty's output voltage, or even a defective carty....

Vinyl..lover, how did you make out with the TT. VPI finish yet? You must be frustrated as heck. As I said above, I use the SS VPI Zephyr (MI) and DV 20X2 H (MC). Both are well shielded and both sound well, although I think the Zephyr is better. Ma...
Actually difference between class A and AB?
Interesting question. Let's add to it whether amp designers use negative feedback (NF) in Class A or A/B? As Class A seems to be the holy grail of Hi Fi, NF seems to be its nuclear waste dump.
Anyone used VS-110 with KT120 for extended period?
I own an ARC VS-115. I replaced the 6550C tubes with KT-120 tubes. The sonics were improved across the board, especially the bass which is much tighter with much better slam. IMHO, it's a no brainer. My only caveat is that you should call ARC and ...
ARC VS-115 vs ARC Ref-110
Lostbears, have you actually had the opportunity to critically compare the VS-115 and Ref 110. If so, in what ways does the 110 do a better job than the 115. BTW, I changed out the 6550C tubes for the KT-120s. BIG difference for the better.
Buying used or sight unseen speakers a bad idea?
Realremo, as I said above, that's just me. Also, I find it difficult to meaningfully audition speakers in brick and mortar shops because dealers can only sell what they have. So, if I wanted to compare some Vandys to a Wilson, I have to hope the s...
Buying used or sight unseen speakers a bad idea?
Realremo, the only problem I have with your post is that I am uncomfortable auditioning equipment at a "bricks and mortar" retail audio store because I would be taking up the time of a salesman who probably earns his/her living (in whole or part) ...
Classe CAM 400's vs ARC REF 210's.
Hi John, just one or two due diligence thoughts. I used to own the ARC Ref 3, just upgraded to the Ref 5, so I am familiar with your pre. IMHO, it's a great pre -- hands down -- period! Admittedly, I have a bias (no pun intended) towards the ARC R...
