Amplifier pairing for Altec Flamencos
Art Dudley really like his Shindo amp with his Flamencos, but I don't know if one can be had for $3500. What $3500 (actually far less) can buy is a Music Reference RM-10 Mk.2, a 35 watt per channel little beauty of a push/pull class A/B (class A u...
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats.
Frank Smillie of Groovetracer renown (he makes excellent Rega upgrade parts. I visited his shop in San Jose, and was very impressed.) machines a turntable platter for Rega tables in both Acrylic and Delrin versions. Here’s what he has to say ab...
Subwoofer - thoughts on Rythmic F12
One thing to be aware of is that the F12 is available with your choice of an aluminum coned-woofer (the F12), and with a paper coned one (the F12G, the "G" to signify GR Research, whose Danny Richie collaborates with Rythmik Audio’s Brian Ding). ...
Big orchestral sound in pop, rock etc.
  - Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. - Randy Newman's debut album is heavily orchestrated, but he is far from a Rock band. - Phil Spector's 1960's productions feature a large ensemble (often three bassists, two pianists, up to four guitarists, num...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
Adding a sub or two to almost any planar will result in improvements in a couple of ways. Most importantly, relieved of reproducing bass, the Maggie "woofers" will now reproduce the midrange in a noticeably improved manner. The speaker will also p...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
So @jjss49, did you watch the video? I’m guessing not. Danny Richie is not the only one who has taken a close look at the Magneplanar’s and done some serious modifying. Members of The Magnepan Group on the Planar Speaker Asylum have gone much fur...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally!
I’ve loved Maggies since the first time I heard the Tympani T-I in 1972. I bought a pair that year, bi-amping them with ARC amplifiers. I later owned a pair of T-Id’s, and now have T-IVa’s (using a First Watt B4 crossover in place of the stock ...
Who makes the best boxes for shipping albums. Not bulk, just a few at a time
I save the cartons I receive LP's in, the one used by Acoustic Sounds being the best. That way when I ship I don't need to buy one.
Recommendation for sub with high level inputs
Rythmik Audio offers high level and line level inputs on the non-XLR versions of their "standard size" plate amps  Models with 8", 12", 15", and 18" woofers---and multiples of same (including dual opposed)---are available. Competitively priced.
New In 2023
I neglected to mention:   Robbie is currently on the road, so if you like the album help him make a living (he won’t make any dough off the album) by buying a ticket to see & hear him live (I’m sure he can’t afford to take his studio band...
New In 2023
Oh, and on May 19th there’s a new album coming out from Marty Stuart And His Fabulous Superlatives, entitled Altitudes. LP, CD, MP3, streaming.   For those who don’t have an original LP (or the reissue from Sundazed done in the 1980’s), and h...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@slaw: Steve, Mary’s out on tour now, so if at all possible try and see/hear her live. She’s real good on stage, particularly as an acoustic guitarist (I saw her at a great club in Portland on her last tour, right down the street from Music Millen...
What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
I am nominating the following titles simply because they have been released only on CD. There are others, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind:   - The Houston Kid by Rodney Crowell. A perfect album. Johnny Cash makes a guest ...
What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
Addendum to above post: Commander Cody led his band from the piano, as does Terry Adams in NRBQ. Terry’s piano (and clavichord) playing is an amazing amalgamation of influences, from Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis to Thelonious Monk and Sun R...
What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
@peporter: Love Cody & his great band(s)! I saw them a few times in the early 1970’s, when original pedal steel player The West Virginia Creeper (Steve Davis) was still in the band (his drinking got him kicked out). I played a gig with The Cre...
