MM cartridges
Oops, sorry for hijacking the thread. I shan't do it again mates!
MM cartridges
Great Dover, thanks for all the info. The Kuzma Stogi Reference looks like it might be able to handle all the physical energy the Londons (or other low-compliance designs) throw into an arm. The arm tube is pretty massive (similar in shape to the ...
MM cartridges
Dover and Dougdeacon, what is it about the Audiomods arm that makes it unsuitable for use with Decca/London cartridges? The common wisdom has always been that they like damped unipivots, but London importer Warren Gregoire tells me they actually r...
Audible Illusion MA3 mod/upgrade?
Give Ric Schultz at EVS a call. He worked at Audible Illusions for awhile, and was at one time offering a mod for the Modulus 2 pre-amps.
Audiophile Fuses
To correct an inaccuracy, Roger Modjeski was not "booted off" the AC Forum a while ago, but rather notified readers that he was saying goodbye to it when he moved up to Berkeley and opened his audio engineering school late last year. But let's pre...
Looking for pre with 2 volume controls.
Ralph Karsten puts channel trim controls in his Atma-Sphere pre-amps, with a master volume knob as well. I think they will allow you to do what you want.
Audiophile Fuses
You may want to read what Roger Modjeski (Music Reference) found when he opened some of the Hi-Fi Tuning fuses. He posted his findings on the Music Reference AudioCircle Forum.
primer on buying vintage tubes?
I talked with Kevin Deal of Upscale Audio at the recent T.H.E. Show in Irvine CA, and found him to be VERY knowledgeable on the subject of tubes. He has an enormous inventory of them, so I would definitely give him a call.
How well respected our EAR products
Tim also designed and built the electronics in the tube analogue reel-to-reel recorder used by recording engineer Kav Alexander for his Water Lily LP's, which are some of the best sounding LP's ever made. EAR power amps are used in some LP masteri...
How well respected our EAR products
EAR's Tim de Paravicini is sort of England's Roger Modjeski (Music Reference). They are both circuit and tube experts, old-world electronic engineers with a distain for high-end tweaks like boutique parts and after-market power cords. Both compani...
Is Vinyl Worth It
Well put Stewart, and very nice front ends you have there!
Your last concert was to see who and when?
The organ pipes were melting.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Exactly---I had an actual out-of-body experience. Who needs drugs when there is Bach?!
SUB-WOOFER RECOMMENDS
I wouldn't buy without taking a look at the Rythmik line of subs. There are quite a few models priced under a grand, and others $1k to $1.5k. Very high value design and sound.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Right up my alley, Schubert! The first time I heard the concerto for four harpsichords I got as high as I've ever been. Psychedelic! I'm devoting as much time as possible in my remaining years to hearing as much J.S.B. as I can.
