New Townshend Rock 7 owner
Congratulations Shaw! The Rock is a very unique table, with a sound like no other. The 7 contains the Seismic Pod feet, so it has excellent isolation from the shelf it is placed upon. It requires no special considerations in set-up, except one: Do...
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
agear, for anyone desiring measured proof of the effectiveness of the Townshend Audio Seismic Isolator, let me once again state that Max Townshend has a video on You Tube in which he explains the theory and design of the product, and demonstrates ...
List of albums that will still be popular 50 years from now...
It just occurred to me that next year it will have been 50 years since Dylan and The Hawks (they didn't become "The Band" until the following year) recorded what are now called the Basement Tapes, in the summer, fall, and winter of 1967. I imagine...
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
No Randy, but turntables are arguably more than any other component affected by the stand they are sitting on, as well as from all other sources of vibration. The physical dimensions of the LP groove walls that the cartridge is "measuring" are on ...
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input
It’s not the cartridge that needs XLR outputs, it’s the arm cable that does. Some arm makers, and arm cable makers as well, DO offer XLR termination, and some phono amp makers XLR inputs. An arm cable that is terminated in RCA plugs can have them ...

I just hope the vastly over-rated Sgt. Pepper album will be forgotten, and the justifiably highly-rated Pet Sounds will endure with current and future listeners.
Is it a OK to leave tube pre-amps powede up 24/7
Or are retired!

Surprisingly, I'm not so sure about The Beatles. But the first two Band albums seem timeless to me. A lot of blues wears well, the same for Jazz. A lot of Pop music sounds dated even before it goes out-of-print.
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics?
The guys who have $2000-$3000 microscope isolation tables (first reported on in TAS about twenty years ago, now made by Newport, MinusK, and others) have them only under their turntables. One under every component in a system would be a whole lott...
EAR vs Audio Note preamp
Robert Levi of Positive Feedback and The Los Angeles & Orange County Audio Society is of the opinion that the EAR 912 betters the Audio Research Reference 3. The EAR 868 contains the same design and circuits as the 912, but without the 912's f...
What are the limits of room correction/ treatments ?
There are internet sites that have room mode calculators, displaying in 3d where standing waves appear in the room, which is determined by the dimensions of the room. You put your room's dimensions into the calculator, and a 3d drawing appears, sh...
Leon Russell has passed on......
His generation is coming to it's end. Dylan himself can't be too far behind, I fear.
Audience's Ohno speaker cable & interconnect. Entry level fluff or serious cable ??
I wouldn't take anything said in TAS too seriously. If at all possible, buy from someone who allows a home audition.
Is it a OK to leave tube pre-amps powede up 24/7
The tubed ARC pre should be fine left on while you are out of the house, but ARC power amps definitely and absolutely not. Their power tubes aren't fused, and when one pops the amps have been known to burst into flames. As I am most likely about t...
Components I would have died for when I was a wee pup
The first speakers I heard that completely changed my concept of what was possible was the Electrostatic Sound Systems (ESS) TranStatic I loudspeaker, in 1970. It had three RTR electrostatic tweeters, a KEF B139 woofer (the oval one Dave Wilson la...
