Greatest Composers of All Time
What a thread! I hadn't seen it before, and like many others here consider J.S. Bach number one. I believe more in depth than breadth, so would thereafter go with other Baroque composers before those of other eras. But you can't eat the same thing...
Sadly missed manufacturers
Oh yeah, Wolf. I just unboxed my Electron Kinetics Eagle 2A. Hope it still works!
Philips Vinyl: Dutch vs Italian Pressing
Italian LP's are renown for being some of the worst in the world. Utter trash.
Mono recordings
There are a couple of other reasons for stereo/mono differences.1- Brian Wilson mixed The Beach Boys albums to mono because A- he is deaf in one ear, and B- he loved Phil Spector’s music, which was always produced in mono only.2- Before the late 1...
Fake XLO cables from China
So does Kimber.
Greatest Rock Drummers
Not just drummers need good time. Ask any recording engineer about guitarists doing overdubs; many "rush", not laying back and waiting for the groove, so hot to play their solo that they jump out ahead of the rhythm section. I’ve seen it time and ...
Greatest Rock Drummers
Ha, I wondered if that would rankle anyone! Yes, I am well aware that opinion flies in the face of the commonly accepted wisdom, with which I obviously disagree. I could explain, but one either gets it or one doesn’t ;-).
Greatest Rock Drummers
You are of course right, Steve. Ringo was the best drummer for The Beatles, Keith Moon the best for The Who (though Zak Starkey, Ringo’s kid, is doing a fantastic job in The Who now. I saw Keith with The Who live twice, and he was a possessed madm...
Greatest Rock Drummers
After the death of Buddy Rich, Neil Peart organized the recording of a tribute album to Buddy. Unfortunately for him, Neil exposed to the drumming world his total inability to play a shuffle, a complete lack of sense of swing. His playing on that ...
Greatest Rock Drummers
Another fact: Though Earl Palmer was a New Orleans Jazz drummer, and at the end of his life was playing in a Jazz trio at Chadneys Steak House in Burbank, CA (where I and the bass player of Los Straitjackets---himself a drummer and huge Earl Palme...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
"recording engineers at the best studios use lamp cord". They used to. Once Doug Sax heard what good cabling did for his monitor system, he rewired his entire studio.
Greatest Rock Drummers
Ginger has played some Rock music, and played in some Rock bands, but his basic approach to playing drums is that of a Jazz drummer. That’s one element of my "problem" with Cream, and Ginger’s playing in that band; their music was basically blues,...
PS Audio 200C X vs. 200Delta?
I agree, Tim. A 200C can be had for $400-$500! The thing weighs a ton, with a massive transformer and power supply. Built like a battleship, as they say. I use it on my Magneplanar Tympani and Eminent Technology LFT-4 bass panels. 200w/ch at 8 ohm...
BEST budget system. What is yours?
Monitor Audio i-deck. Has an ipod interface built in, plus a line level input you can plug a CD player, phono stage, tuner, or cassette/reel-to-reel deck into.
Greatest Rock Drummers
No, Earl Palmer is. By the way, Ginger Baker is not a Rock drummer, but a Jazz one.
