Brand new to vinyl: Help!
Ralph, have you considered offering a stand-alone balanced phono stage? I’d bet you could sell quite a few of them! There are a number of solid state balanced phonos, but no tube (other than the phono stage in your complete pre’s), as far as I know.

The ESS speaker I would still like to find is the Super Quad. It used the original Quad ESL for the midrange, with the same transmissionline-loaded Kef B-139 woofer and RTR tweeters as did the Transtatic. Not many were made---it retailed for $2000...
Some help with my new-used Michell Gyrodec w/ Zeta tonearm...
Classic table/arm combo! Rather than buying a new tone arm cable, send the Zeta to Johnnie at Audio Origami in England for a complete rewire. Johnnie has a lot of experience with that excellent British arm (I have one myself), and offers different...

Let's ask Quincy Jones.

@jafant, I’ve had the original Sweet Old World since it’s release in 92, and the new version is in my pile of new acquisitions, waiting in line to be heard. Too much music, too little time (left). I have to laugh when I hear old guys I know say "g...
Most achingly-beautiful music
Lucinda Williams' "West".
Subwoofer Decision
I saw one sub designer’s quip: "A fast woofer is a tweeter". Fast in regards to a woofer is not used literally, but to it’s perceived lack of boom. Many factors contribute to boom, mostly the room. But Arnie Nudell didn’t employ servo-feedback woo...
Mogami wire quality?
Actually, rja, it's the newly-converted.

I was jonesin' for a pair of their Transtatics in ’71 (pre-Heil era, it was a transmisionline loaded Kef B139, a Kef B110 5" mid, and three RTR ESL tweeters), but didn’t have the $ (they were $1200/pr at the time). I finally got a pair in ’82, and...
Subwoofer Decision
The notion that an 8" woofer will automatically be "quicker" than a 12" or 15" one seems logical, but is actually an over-simplification. The size of the cone is only one factor in a woofer’s performance capability. A woofer’s moving mass vs. it’s...

We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses
The key phrase in Al's reprint of Ralph Karsten's post is "fuses are inherently incapable of having directionality in any way whatsoever". THAT'S what sticks in the craw of believers.

lowfreqguy, Rythmik sells direct-to-consumers only, but have a deal worked out with speaker maker Ascend Acoustics (who also do direct sales) in San Clemente, CA. Ascend sells the Rythmik subs to partner with their speakers, and I believe demos th...

Is the harshness present no matter the volume (SPL)?
Sound Anchor Stands
Put a very thin layer (1/16") of felt on the bottom of the speaker.
