A battle between two turntable generations. Which one is the winner?
Hey Terry, I just found an older thread in which you detailed some of your Terminator accessories. Which model HiBlow pump do you use? And did you make your (muffler-like) surge tank, or does a company make the one you describe? Lastly, when you s...
A battle between two turntable generations. Which one is the winner?
I have acquired another table even better suited to the Terminator than the HW-19 Mk.4 (but with a TNT aluminum/Delrin platter)---a VPI Aries Mk.1. Now I can mount my Helius Silver Omega on the HW-19, while still having my Townshend Elite Rock wit...
That perfect RIAA match? Jadis content.
At their prices, they had better!
Vandersteen Treo CT vs Mag 3.7i speakers
Not yet mentioned here is that some find Maggies lacking in low-level dynamics---the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds, as more dynamic speakers appear to do. They need to be listened to at higher SPL than other speakers in order to "break t...
Confused!
KEF is having a sale right now on the LS50---$999 a pair.
Best Footers for DAC?
Speaking of Barry Diament, in his discussion on roller bearings, he includes ideas and suggestions on how to make DIY versions. He originally used marbles in wooden egg holders (whatever they are!), and encouraged by the positive results he heard ...

Not a Jadis owner (a little out of my reach ;-), but listened to Jadis pre and power amps for years at Brooks Berdan's shop. Brooks was (R.I.P.) a long-time Jadis dealer, and always had them in his main room's system, hooked up to Wilson and Vande...

ricred1, the ISO-PUCK looks very interesting and promising. What have you tried them under? They are sure priced to sell!
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Wow boxer12, I’m surprised to hear "Love And Theft" was issued on LP by Columbia back when it was a new release in 2001. I don’t remember my Sony Distribution (they had Columbia Records) salesperson (I would say salesman, he it was a she ;-) menti...

The EAR 868PL contains both a phono stage (the "P") and a line stage (the "L", of course), so I don't see how it would be an appropriate addition to an integrated amp. If you are looking at the 868 just for it's phono stage, you are squandering it...
Shelby Lynn & Allison Moorer / Not Dark Yet
I've been meaning to look into this album, as I like both Shelby and Allison. I assume "Not Dark Yet" is Dylan related? A great, great song of his, on the Time Out Of Mind album.
What is your favorite budget audio component?
VPI HW-16.5. Your music library is a more valuable possession than the gear made to reproduce it, imo. If that library includes LP's, you NEED at least a vacuum cleaner. The 16.5 is a real good one, at a price affordable to all.
Power Wedge 116
In addition to the Humbuster by AVA (Franks Van Alstine), Emotiva offers a product to remove DC offset (CMX-2), a common cause of transformer hum, from the AC.
EAR 834p-- which are stock tube replacements?
I spoke with EAR's Tim de Paravicini at the Anaheim Show in 2014, and he told me his favorite tubes are the old Mullards. He often uses the 7DJ8 in place of the more common 6DJ8. The two are interchangeable, the 7 merely capable of running on high...
SoCal FM radio casualty
Nope tj, not The Golden Bear. Never even been to a show there as an audience member. I worked at a bunch of places in Long Beach, and up and down the coast in Surf clubs, like Toes Tavern in Redondo Beach. Surf clubs have great audiences! Cute Sur...
