The cleaning of an LP jacket
Thanks slaw, I’ll go to the website.@pryso, speaking of which, I received an email with a 20% off coupon from Barnes & Noble, so went to the store in Portland to see what their LP section looked like. On some titles B & N has versions excl...
This guy just doesn't stop...
@tablejockey---Oops, I just now finally saw your question from 12-15-17 to me! I’m up in Vancouver Washington now, just over the border from Portland Oregon. A couple drummers I knew in L.A. moved up here before me, one of whom---Jose Medeles of T...
speaker and seating position for magnepans
My feeling is that creating a 10ms delay between the sound from the rear of planars and that from their front is the first priority. Anything less than about 10ms, and the rear wave is not perceived as ambiance, but rather as part of the direct so...
The cleaning of an LP jacket
When I started buying 45's as a 12 year old, I wrote my name on them all, so when we had dance parties I would know which were mine. Don't have them any more, but someone else may, and is wondering who I am ;-).The UK type glossy jackets are not a...
TURNTABLE SELECTION RECCOMENDATIONS
Turntables are more personal than digital players, ergonomics being a consideration. I myself prefer a high-mass design with a platter designed to damp vinyl resonance, and an LP clamping system. The best value around in that type of table is the ...
LP boxed sets - best storage
I take the LP's out of the box and integrate them with my other LP's, putting the box away. I don't need no stinkin' boxes!
Waiting on 802D3 to arrive -- Will I need a sub?
There is that too, dualmarantz! To find the locations of the resonant modes in your room (via the calculators on the net; modes are generally along all the wall/floor/ceiling intersections, and at the 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 divisions of the length, width, ...
Quincy Jones Interview
I didn’t love any of their post-Beatles solo albums (though McCartney’s s/t debut and it’s follow-up, Ram, have their charms), and I’ve always felt it was because their collective chemistry is what made The Beatles as good as they were. It was the...
Diana Krall
Isn’t Randy and his shop a treat, minorl?! He looks like a completely different person with his hair and beard gone---use to look like a damn hippie, now like a little old man ;-). He has a great sounding room and system, and is as nice a guy as y...
BEST 90's Audio Gear that holds its own today.
Atma-Sphere (all), Music Reference RM-9, Electron Kinetics 2, VPI HW-19, Eminent Technology ET-2 and LFT-8, Townshend Audio Rock, London Super Gold, Quad speakers (all ESL's), Magneplanar Tympani-IVa.
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
One of the remarkable things about the Eminent Technology LFT-8b speakers is that it's "midrange" panel covers the frequency range of 180Hz to 10,000Hz, with no crossover! The 1st-order filter at 180Hz hands off to a sealed-box 8" woofer, and the ...
Tube rolling for EAR 912
When I talked to Tim at the Anaheim Show in 2015, he told me his favorite tube brand was Mullard. The old ones, of course. Isn't is surprising how few audiophiles own, or have even heard, EAR electronics? Small number of dealers and pro reviews, n...
Quincy Jones Interview
Good point mapman, about the Lennon/McCartney songs authorship. Once they went solo, it became rather apparent, if one couldn’t already tell, which of them wrote any particular later Beatles song. I believe by the time of Rubber Soul, they were no...
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
tomic601, you must mean the Eminent Technology LFT-8b? That speaker is 5' tall and 13" wide and deep, so might be too big for the op's room. It was for that reason I suggested it's smaller brother, the LFT-16, a monitor-size speaker.
Quincy Jones Interview
Fake news, schubert. You may be thinking of "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison, on his All Things Must Pass album. The copyright holder of the song "He's So Fine" sued for plagiarism and won. The two songs share a chord sequence and melody in thei...
