What used speakers raraely come up for sale ESS Super Quad---the original Quad ESL as midrange driver, RTR ESL tweeters, and a KEF B139 woofer in a transmissionline enclosure. Not many made and sold in the early-mid 70's. The Fulton "J" loudspeaker, a modular design achieving superb transpa...
Favorite Dylan? Charles Lloyd, ay jafant? He's been a crossover-musician (Jazz to Rock) for a long time, working with The Beach Boys in the early 70's. He with Lucinda is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell going in a decidedly Jazz direction in the late 70's, though Ch...
Vinyl - Hearing The Beginning of the Song One Revolution Earler That is the result of magnetic "bleed" in the layers of the master tape.
Beware the audio guru In the name of historical accuracy.....J. Gordon Holt was never a "subjectivist guru". He performed test bench measurements on all the products he reviewed, starting in his time at High Fidelity Magazine before starting Stereophile, where he conti...
Talk but not walk? Excellent post shadorne. Yup, I neglected to cover the matter of pitch bend---the phenomenon where the tone of the drum (generally) drops as it’s sustain subsides, a sound I love. I too use Evans, their kick heads exclusively. I for years taped fe...
Talk but not walk? Speaking of tuning, and that of a drum in particular: To proport that a drum that has been "tuned" (the reason for the use of the quotation marks to follow) in one room, and then moved to another where it is now "out of tune", is to unwittingly re...
Which is better - Hi end CD transport or Music server into DAC? If one currently owns no CD’s/SACD’s (a rather young person, presumably), and asks the question to help decide whether or not to start buying them, keep in mind the cost of building a disc library. At, say, ten bucks a disc, a modest collection of...
Brass Pulley for My TT Cymbals are made of brass, as are saxes, etc. Brass oxidizes, which is why cymbals become tarnished. Not a good material for a pulley, imo. You could have it chrome plated, I suppose.
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners @ct0517---Well, I do own two of Bruce’s speaker models, LFT-8b and LFT-4. My not having an ET arm is the result of long ago choosing the Townshend Rock as my turntable. A linear tracking arm can not be used with the Rock, due to the table’s dampin...
Huey Lewis diagnosed with Meniere's disease shadorne, I too consider Bill Gibson a real good drummer, very tasty. And The News’ original bassist Mario Cipollina is the younger brother of Quicksilver Messenger Service guitarist John Cipollina, one of the best San Francisco area guitarists of...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @reubent, oh the LP itself is the same, B & N just arranged to have the cover signed by the guys before the shrink wrap was put on, as a B & N exclusive. B & N HAVE had some special pressings done of some titles, like colored vinyl, bu...
The best music in 2018 slaw, The Decemberists are my new hometown's (Portland, Oregon, though I'm actually across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington) local heroes. I remember hearing of them in the late 90's, iirc, but never got around to checking them out. Gue...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Cool record, reubent! I found a special version of the LP at Barnes & Noble, the covered signed by Marty and HFS---Harry Stinson (a fantastic drummer and harmony singer), Kenny Vaughan (formerly in Lucinda Williams' band), and new bassist Chri...
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners slaw, when you ask "Is the Hurst motor a springboard for (their) motor controllers?", are you speaking of Phoenix Engineering and their motor controllers, or VPI and theirs? It seems logical to assume that VPI controllers were developed specifical...
Why Aren't More Speaker Designers Building Augmented Widebanders? The Eminent Technology LFT-8b employs a pair of LFT push-pull magnetic-planar drivers that cover the 180Hz to 10kHz frequency range, without a crossover. An 8" dynamic driver in a sealed enclosure handles 180Hz down, and a ribbon tweeter 10kHz up.... |
