Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss?
@boxer12, I believe it is Bedini you are thinking of.
Speaker type for my Conrad-Johnson ET5/LP70S tube combo
routeman21, if your amp isn't enough for the ET's, it REALLY isn't enough for Maggies, which need far more power. Perhaps a pair of ESL's would be better for your amp, though some of them also require or benefit from more than 70 watts.
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
Roger, why is damping such an outdated term? ;-) I have heard you speak of how even a low output impedance amp doesn't, contrary to common believe, "damp" a woofer. You have quoted Paul Klipsch on the subject, as I recall.
What separate tube phono stage do you use ?
Just as a reminder, there ARE high output cartridges that compete with, if not surpass, low output moving coils, and are fully deserving of a superior RIAA phono amp. Grado and London, both moving iron designs, need only 40dB or so of gain. George...

Consider the Eminent Technology LFT-8b, a hybrid magnetic-planar (180Hz up)/dynamic woofer (180Hz down) loudspeaker that retails for $2499. It doesn't need as much power as Maggies, and is better suited to your power amp, as it is a nominal 8 ohm ...

@jcder, everyone is going to recommend his own pre in answer to your question. Here are a couple to consider: There is a Hovland HP-100 listed on Audiogon right now (at an asking price of $2350), a fine line stage (I heard it in Brooks Berdan’s re...

Stereophile Magazine question.
@roberjerman, I for years subscribed to HiFi News & Record Review (I like Ken Kessler a lot, personally. We are also both Anglophiles---Decca cartridges, Quad ESL's), but about ten years ago just could no longer justify the cost. I do thumb th...
Maggie owners HELP PLEASE!
The Sanders Magtech is great with Maggies. If you bi-amp, that on the bottom half with a tube amp on top is the ultimate. Nothing like tubes for a ribbon tweeter! Consider the Music Reference RM-200 Mk.2, unusual for a tube design in that is produ...
Greatest debut album
Regarding The Beatles: Americans tend to consider Meet The Beatles their debut album, but it actually isn’t. In March of 1963 EMI released their true debut, Please Please Me, in England, but Capitol (EMI’s U. S. equivalent) passed on the album. Ve...
Drink of choice for serious listening?
Coffee ;-) . For relaxation, I'm no single malt snob; Johnny Walker Black (immortalized by Van Morrison and Richard Manuel in The Band's "4% Pantomime") is good enough for me. Grolsch beer for a chaser.

@justinm, the obvious question is, did the reversal result in a difference you could hear? Sorry for putting you on the spot!

John Lennon: "All I want is the truth, just give me some truth".Amen, brother! "High End" reviewers like Harry Pearson convinced lots of audiophiles that the measured performance of an amplifier and that amp’s sound are unrelated. That making a "g...
Stereophile Magazine question.
I discovered it in 1972, and have had a subscription ever since. I've kept all the J. Gordon Holt-edited issues, after that only the ones with something of particular interest. I had a complete set of TAS (back to the original printing of the firs...
Stereophile Magazine question.
Also, John Atkinson is doing, as far as I know, the only bench tests in the field of consumer hi-fi publishing. The findings of those tests are of great value and interest to me.
