Stereophile Magazine question.
Also, John Atkinson is doing, as far as I know, the only bench tests in the field of consumer hi-fi publishing. The findings of those tests are of great value and interest to me.
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
Roger, here’s a question about light loading with the RM-200 Mk.2 amp: With a loudspeaker given a nominal 8 ohm load rating by it’s designer/manufacturer (it measures between 10 and 20 ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz save for the 60Hz-180Hz band, where it...
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss?
The Townshend Rock turntable, the BEL power amps.
What speakers use a "minimal" crossover?
While a 1st-order crossover does require fewer parts (perhaps just a single capacitor and resistor) than a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-order, a loudspeaker with a 1st-order x/o does not necessarily have a simple one. Thiels are often mentioned (as they are a...
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps?
Beside the advantage of a bi-amped speaker presenting an impedance of less variation to each of the two power amps than one amp sees from a non-bi-amped speaker, the speaker’s drivers are also connected directly to the amps, not to the speaker’s i...
Your Favorite Female Vocal Track Please
Since you don't like Country (Iris is more Bluegrass than Country), here's two tracks by Joan Osborne on You Tube: "Shake Your Hips" (a 1966 song by Slim Harpo), live in a radio station with her great band; "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" (an ...

Thanks for the balanced info Roger. 4 resistors > transformer! I've been running the RM-200 with a balanced pre-amp, but if connected to an unbalanced source (First Watt B4 x/o), what is your recommended method of converting the RM-200's XLR ja...
Greatest debut album
Bellybutton by Jellyfish is a mighty amazing debut. They were incredible live too.
One Only Please- Your Favorite Track from which album and Artist please
I can't help myself. "No Time To Cry" by Iris Dement, on her 1994 Warner Brothers My Life album. My God, what a song. Covered by Merle Haggard, Kasey Chambers, and others, but Iris' version remains unequalled.
Rosanne Cash "She Remembers Everything" LP
Rosanne's The Wheel album was about her breakup with Rodney Crowell, and it's predecessor Interiors the troubles leading to it. Too much talent for one marriage ;-) .
Looking for a low heat tube amp
@analogluvr, I would have suggested the Music Reference RM-10, but the op is looking for an integrated amp. A nice passive pre partnered with the RM-10 is a good alternative.
Pheonix Engineering Road Runner
Peter, though Roadrunners were going for as much as $400 after it was discontinued, it originally retailed for $234 (it was the Falcon and Eagle that sold for more). Your $299 is quite reasonable.
Greatest debut album
@tostadosunidos, yup Jack was the most interesting thing about The Airplane, just as John Entwistle was in The Who. But then, I love the bass. James Jamerson is about my favorite musician; he, Ry Cooder, and Levon Helm. What a trio that would have...

Roger, I assume the balanced/XLR-only input on your RM-200 is accomplished with a transformer. Do you wire it in accordance with AES File 48 (pin 1: ground, pin 2: non-inverted signal, pin 3: inverted signal)? Thanks---Eric.
Stereophile Magazine question.
It's worth it just for Art Dudley's writing. Herb Reichert and Michael Fremer, too.
