For those of us over 60.. @hapinoregon, you’re my kinda guy! Are you actually in Oregon? Portland perhaps?@prof, I feel your pain. Musical taste is purely subjective and personal. I too find The Moody Blues insufferable (except for their debut Go Now album, when future Win...
This is juvenile... Oh man, how could I have forgotten about Marianne Faithful?! The perfect mix of Angel and tramp.
Old School MFSL By "new version" I meant the newer Mobile Fidelity, not the 50th Anniversary from Capitol. Mobile Fidelity issued Music From Big Pink twice, unusual for them.
Tune of the Day Oops! Didn't intend to put a nail in his coffin or anything. Neil seems like he could turn out to be one of those guys who lives to a ripe old age. I think he's a few years younger than most of his contemporaries (Crosby, Stills, Nash).
Old School MFSL Damn, look at the prices Elusive Disc is asking for the OOP Mobile Fidelity LP's! They'll never sell their copy of Music From Big Pink at that price, as the new version is better and can be had for far less $.
Cover songs that are better than the originals. Wow slaw, two songs I haven't heard. So Steve Miller's "Mercury Blues" is a different song the Lindley's? I admit I haven't heard it. I saw The Steve Miller Blues Band (his original band name) in '67, before the first album came out, with Boz Scag...
Best building material for vibration free shelving @skyscraper, I use ASC (Acoustic Science Corp., maker of Tube Traps) Wall Damp as constrained layer damping. It has a "tacky" surface like double-sided carpet tape, so holds together the two pieces of wood it is installed between. It was designed ...
Tune of the Day Nail Young: "Powderfinger", my favorite of all his songs.
What is the fascination? The original AR arm was pretty bad. In the 80's people started cutting it off the subchassis and putting on a different arm. George Merrill came up with some great mods for the table, employing some methods he uses to this day on his own table.
Cover songs that are better than the originals. slaw, is that the David Lindley "Mercury Blues"? Must be killer, 'cause David's is fantastic. Great recorded quality, too.
Displaying your stereo on Facebook Schubert, thank you for your service. Going to Viet Nam was well known at that time as an extremely high-risk proposition; my Dad was a WWII Vet and Republican, and he didn’t want me to go. My sister’s boyfriend did, and came back three weeks late...
Best building material for vibration free shelving I've said it before, and I'll say it again. 3/4"-19mm 13-ply Baltic Birch is really stiff, and fairly non-resonant, much more so than Maple. Two pieces of it with a thin sheet of constrained layer damping between them makes for an excellent shelf....
Cover songs that are better than the originals. @n80, I got to see/hear both The Kinks and The Who live in '68 and '69, and both were really great live. You expect that of The Who, but not necessarily The Kinks. Ray Davies in one of my favorite writers ("Waterloo Sunset" !), and he was also a g...
Cover songs that are better than the originals. @n80, have you seen The Band's performance of the song on Saturday Night Live? Astoundingly great, their best. It was late in The Band's original run, maybe in 1976. While SNL always gave the musical guest time for only one song, Lorne Michaels ga...
Just an observation here, but???????? The Townshend Audio Seismic Pods provide the isolation springs do in a suspended-subchassis design. Put a set of them under your non-suspended table and you have the best of both worlds. |
