Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
Roger doesn't suffer fools gladly. Not that I'm calling anyone a fool ;-) .
Looking for an excellent Subwoofer match for Celestion SL600 Speakers!
Celestion at one time offered an OB/Dipole sub designed specifically for use with the SL600.
What do you like most? Jazz or Classic?
For myself, it's not the instrument the music is played on, but the music itself. There is no such instrument as a Classical violin, or a Jazz one. The difference is in the music itself, so whichever music one prefers is the determining factor. Cl...
Have you had enough of Classic Rock?
In interviews, great artists of any given era will often talk about the artists from the preceding era that inspired and/or influenced he or she. Dylan is viewed as a member of the 1960’s counter-culture generation (some even view him as its’ fath...
Has anyone added a small subwoofer to 2 channel and been thrilled with the result?
A number of the Rythmik plate amps (all but the XLR models) provide both high-level connections (on speaker binding posts) AND line-level connections (on RCA jacks). You can try the sub both ways, and use the method you prefer.

Ah yes, I somehow missed the qualifying sentence "For simplicity I am leaving out the signal source".The only other comment I would make is one that doesn’t help (sorry ;-) : The proposition assumes that all comparably-priced "same" components con...
Mono Cartridge Recommendations
@lewm, Yeah, those 1970’s Deccas were so shoddily constructed that people did all kinds of things to optimize their sound, including the risky internal adjustments you made. The current Londons are much better built. The Decca/London cartridge desi...
Your favourite Christmas song.......
"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Produced by Phil Spector, sung magnificently by Darlene Love.
Which Songs Make Good Ringtones?
"I Hear You Knocking" by Dave Edmunds. It’s both a great song and apropos ;-) .
Is this the end of HEA?
Harry Pearson introduced the term "High End" to audiophiles. J. Gordon Holt preferred the term high performance; that's nothing new. Also not new is the concept of moderately priced-high value hi-fi. I know we live in an era of simplistic bumper-s...
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles?
Good one @kacomess! I haven't thought about The Rev in years. Another like him in spirit is Wayne "The Train" Hancock, a real Hillbilly singer. An old friend and bandmate of mine (Paul Skelton) played guitar on his first album, and taking his plac...
Tube amp with KEF Reference 1
Music Reference RM-200 Mk.2. $8,000 new, so look for a used one. Good luck, it's a keeper!

Conspicuously absent is what I consider number 1, the recording (source material).
Have you had enough of Classic Rock?
Actually, Doug Ingle of Iron Butterfly played not a Hammond organ, but a Farfisa, same as Ray Manzarek of the doors (lower case their choice, not my mistake). That’s one reason they both sound so cheezy ;-) . The drum solo in "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" ...
Whats playing on your system today?
@phomchick, great selection. Regarding the sound quality of the recording, it was made after Ry Cooder had heard his first Water Lily Records recording, and was gobsmacked. He asked 'Why don't my records (at the time, all on Warner Brothers Record...
