I wonder how many audiophiles there are these days
Set up in a marble and glass room!
Whats playing on your system today?
reubent, did you manage to see/hear Rockpile live? They played three consecutive nights at The Country Club in Reseda, CA in 1980, with Moon Martin opening. I went all three nights; now THAT was a Rock 'n' Roll band! Moon was great too. My first w...
balanced vs. unbalanced sound quality
I'm guessing Johnson was referring to the signal path length within a balanced circuit, not within a balanced cable.
Best vinyl purchases based on pressing, studio production, sound quality and enjoyment.
Yer welcome, knollbrent ;-) . The music’s great too. If you love the album enough to justify the cost, look for the original UK/British pressing; it has a great front cover.
Esoteric Support - nonexistent???
Ah jafant, another happy DV-50s owner. The SACD/DVD player is garnering a cult following.
SPEAKERS JUMPER CABLES
I would assume the preferred arrangement is to connect the cable from the power amp onto the upper-driver binding posts, then jumper from there over to the low frequency driver posts. Is that how ya’ll do it?
Mountain and Cactus
I saw Leslie West playing in The Vagrants (on a Les Paul Jr., iirc), pre-Mountain. He came out onto the Fillmore stage wearing a mesh cape covered in bird feathers. Quite a sight!
What is the Best LP Cover Art for you Wall
R. Crumb And His Cheap Suit Serenaders.
Is the Vinyl Revival well and growing?
Thanks ff, I’ll check them out too. I had all my regular places in L.A. to find LP’s: Record Surplus, Atomic (only a couple of blocks from my house in Burbank. They have a VPI HW-16 RCM), Amoeba, a bunch of others (as well as thrift stores, etc.)....
Is the Vinyl Revival well and growing?
Thanks sejodiren. Yeah, I'm just over the river in Vancouver, but there's no serious record stores over here. I learned of Crossroads just recently, but haven't made it there yet. Soon! Millennium's pretty good as far as stock, but not as far as p...
Best MM?
Very true dhcod. The Londons cause the SME knife-edge bearing to "chatter". Too bad, because the SME arm tube is a great one.
50 years on---the brilliance of The Band and their astounding debut album.
n80, take a look (or even better a listen, if possible) at Muddy Waters' Folk Singer LP on Mobile Fidelity. Great Delta Blues, in great sound.
50 years on---the brilliance of The Band and their astounding debut album.
n80, I believe you meant to say 12 Jan '69. I remember the moment I learned of it, from a non-musician friend of mine (I didn't have many of those ;-). I loved The Yardbirds, their first three albums still in my collection. But their 4th (5th if y...
Is the Vinyl Revival well and growing?
Seeing a common LP (one that I own) priced at $60 in who knows what condition, lead me to conclude my LP collection (somewhere around 3500-4000 titles) is worth a fair chunk-o-change. My CD's (around 3500), not so much. In preparation for my major...
Magnepan Speakers
Head over to the MUG (Magnepan Owners Group) site, and/or Planar Speaker Asylum. The main failing in old Magneplanars is of the glue Magnepan used to attach the conductive wire onto the Mylar drivers (it was ultraviolet light and moisture sensitiv...
