... POORLY RECORDED SONGS THAT ...
@three_easy_payments---It may partly be the recording of Mitch’s drums (1960’s Ludwigs), but also how he tuned and (didn’t) damp them. His drums sounded about the same live (I saw him twice) as on the Hendrix albums, high and ringy, with lots of s...

Sure Walker knew what he was doing, at a genius level. So why did he make the ESL with that horrid metal front grille?! It the panels have resonances, why is the front wave not as effected as is the rear?
... POORLY RECORDED SONGS THAT ...
@whart, I don’t own the Blind Faith album, and haven’t heard it in many years. Are the really bad sounding cymbals on only the one song? I ask because Ginger Baker’s cymbals, starting on the Graham Bond Organization albums, and continuing in Cream...
Greatest debut album
Another contender is the debut by Moby Grape. And Randy Newman, Van Dyke Parks, Iris Dement, Lou Ann Barton, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Dave Edmunds, Rockpile (their s...
Best wood under audio components?
Some have tried the Bamboo cutting boards from IKEA, and like them. Surely their are IKEA's in Norway!
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
@roberjerman, it was actually Robert Fulton who started it, with his "Brown" speaker cable. Next, I believe, was the Polk Cobra, which had so much capacitance it caused marginally stable amplifiers to oscillate.
Greatest debut album
I am not alone in considering Music From Big Pink by The Band the winner of that award. Others who concur are George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Al Kooper.
Onzow Stylus Tip Cleaner
Another is RTOM Moongel, a drumhead damping product. Available real cheap at Guitar Center.

@noromance, guess my memory is failing even more than I was aware of! I have a spare treble panel in front of me as I write, and it’s dustcover is clear. My Quads are actually still down in S. California, awaiting my next trip down. I put the stoc...
Pheonix Engineering Road Runner
The Road Runner is going back into production, in a deal struck between Phoenix Engineering designer/owner Bill Carlin and SOTA Industries. However, it may be a dedicated SOTA turntable-only product.
Whats playing on your system today?
Joan Osborne: Bring It On Home, and Songs Of Bob Dylan. Bring It On Home is pretty good (her and her band's take on Slim Harpo's "Shake You Hips" is fantastic! Another great recording of the song is on Lou Ann Barton's Read My Lips album), Songs O...

@noromance, I've read that the back of the Quads were padded to make them useable closer to the wall (those small English parlours!). When they are far enough from the wall behind them (no less than 3' they say, 5' imo) that is no longer a concern...
My first Tube Amplifier
I like Wolf's post so much I'll follow his lead. A blackface 1967 Fender Showman amp (four 6L6 power tubes) with a 15" JBL D140 driver for my '68 Fender Precision bass, and a blackface '66 Deluxe Reverb for guitar. For hi-fi, a Fisher X-100A, boug...
Which band IS really America's Greatest (rock & roll band)?
The early Beatles music has been described as the melding of Buddy Holly chord structures, Everly Brothers harmonies, and Chet Atkins guitar playing. An over-simplification, but not that far off. I would add other songwriting influences to those o...
Which band IS really America's Greatest (rock & roll band)?
Big Joe Turner’s "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" came out in 1954, and is a perfect example of actual Rock ’n’ Roll music that at the time of it’s release was not being marketed as such. The reason obviously being, Joe was a black man, and the U.S.A. wa...
