Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
@clio09, I read awhile back on a DIY forum that the assembled First Watt B4 was being discontinued, and Nelson was by that time providing info on the kit version. I just looked on the First Watt site, and the B4 is still listed. That doesn’t neces...
That "Wow" Moment!
A guy I knew my Senior year of High School who was mentally ill (Seriously. He should have been on meds, but that wasn't common at the time), and he participated in all kinds of bad behavior (He recklessly put both our lives at risk on one occasio...
Favorite band or artist of all time?
I saw Jimi, Noel, and Mitch live twice. I know a lot of ya’ll really love them, but I found "the middle" of the music missing in what they did. To speak in analogies, what they played created a "sphere" of music, with a hollow center. It’s like th...
New Rega Planer 8 (P8) Turntable - Apheta 2 Cartridge Combo - Thoughts
I would not get the Kirmuss. It operates at only 35kHz, too low a frequency imo. The bubbles produced are too large, and the force behind them too violent, not "gentle" enough. This is new information and opinion, which some may dismiss. Not I! So...
Owens Corning 703 vs. Roxul Safe 'n' Sound?
Happy New year Spencer. I'm still getting use to this Northwest weather, quite different from that of the California desert I spent six years in before moving up here. Everything is frozen in the morning! It's dark and cool all day during the Fall...
Favorite band or artist of all time?
J.S. Bach, the father of Western music. Not as good a hairdo as George Gobel, though, or early Buck Owens. Flat top with fenders.
Swapping Platters on Thorens 124
Thanks @dhcod. I too use London's, and am myself interested in getting TD-124. Keep us appraised, ay?
Swapping Platters on Thorens 124
I have been told (by Art Dudley) it is the sub-platter on the Mk.1 that is ferrous, not the top platter. True or false?
I Would LOVE to see.
Oops, it was Skip not Syd who was wandering around downtown San Jose. Syd spent the last few decades of his life being cared for by his mother. Do a search for pics of him in those years if you want to be shocked. It's enough to scare you off acid!
Is there a quality website that lists upcoming releases of music
For Americana music, there is the No Depression website. You can sign up for their frequent emails.

@fsmithjack, The Last Factory makes a couple of good stylus products; Last System Formula 4 Stylus Cleaner, and System Formula 5 Stylus Treatment.Audiophiles have discovered an unlikely product for cleaning styli, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Do an...

Another like Syd Barrett was Skip Spence, a fellow acid casualty. Syd had been the Jefferson Airplane's original drummer (on only their debut album, Takes Off) before joining Moby Grape as songwriter/singer/rhythm guitarist.Skip's Oar solo album m...

Nelson Pass is now offering a kit version of his nice First Watt B4 active electronic x/o at an irresistible price. It provides 1st/2nd/3rd/4th-order high-pass and low-pass filers (6-12-18-24 dB/octave) in 25Hz increments from 25Hz to 3200Hz, via ...
So disappointed in today's Americana
Good one whart! David Lindley is a monster lap steel player, with a style employing, unlike most steel players, lots of sustain and over-driven tube distortion. He's great live, and his first two solo albums (he was in the late-60's band Kaleidosc...
New in 2018
As I just posted on slaws related thread, though I haven’t heard a word about it, I sure hope Capitol Records reprises 2018’s deluxe boxset reissue of The Bands majestic 1968 masterpiece Music from Big Pink with the same for their 1969 follow-up, ...
