Marvin Gaye "What's Goin' On" MFSL UDOS 45rpm @tomic601, Ha! When I've been low on dough, I've had to choose between a couple of albums and a 5th of whiskey. I already have a lot of albums, so it can be a tough choice. An album is forever, a 5th only a few days ;-) .
When artistic and entertainment worlds collide. Thanks slaw, I have to get the rest of Mary's albums I don't yet have, on LP when possible. I think Mercy Now was a CD only release, but Filth & Fire may have been on LP.Mike, Robbie Robertson's mother was Native American, his father Jewish. A...
When artistic and entertainment worlds collide. @rpeluso, man do I envy you! I would love to see Mary live in a small venue, as it surely would be. She's never going to be booked into stadiums ;-). Before Lucinda was signed to Warner Brothers, I use to see her at tiny little joints around L.A.,...
First impression: Herron VTPH-2A phono preamp Keith has said the majority of the improvement in the VTPH-2 compared to the VTPH-1 is in the MC circuit of the phono amp. For users of high output pickups (moving magnet and moving iron)---whose signal does not pass through the MC circuit---the i...
ST 70 best sounding version? I've had a couple of stock Dynaco ST70's, and there have been some mods or even redesigns which addressed the flaws in that very historically-important and influential amp. Some of Bill Johnson's early ARC designs were variations on those of David...
Whats playing on your system today? @reubent, I don’t know much about The Tubes, even though I grew up in San Jose, just 45 minutes south of their base in San Francisco. But in L.A. I was a member of the band for a singer who got her start as a dancer for The Tubes live shows, Pearl...
Whats on your turntable tonight? The Dave Edmunds Band---maybe the best pure, U.S.A.-style Rock 'n' Roll Band I've ever seen and heard live. For my long-time girlfriend, there is no maybe about it. She still talks about their 1983 NYC show we attended.
Favorite band or artist of all time? It is my heart Iris Dement effects, to the point of feeling it will burst. I swear, an Angel sent down from Heaven.
Looking for suggestions on best small footprint speaker under $4K The Eminent Technology LFT-8b, though a planar-magnetic like Maggies (at 180Hz and above, that is), is only 13" wide and about the same deep (the dimensions of the bass enclosure the panel is attached to). But being a dipole planar, it really must...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps? @lukaske, do you mean the EAR 859? That is one of their tube power amps, the 868 one of their pre amps. Good products, good designer (Tim de Paravicini), good company.
BUSTED: UK company is raided for fake vinyl production Weren’t pre-war 78’s recorded live-to-disc? There were no tape recorders available for the recording of music until after WWII (the Germans invented the recorder for tricking the Allies, "time shifting" fake news), and direct-to-disc LP’s remain t...
ST 70 best sounding version? For the same price, you can get a used Music Reference RM-10, a real nice 35w/ch honey of a tube amp. A much better amp than the ST70, which has some serious design deficiencies.
Looking for suggestions on best small footprint speaker under $4K As a fellow Maggie lover (I've owned four pair, including my current Tympani T-IVa), I suggest the Eminent Technology LFT-8b, a real bargain at $2499/pr. Better imo than the MG1.7i, and even the 3.7i in some regards.
Tracking Force? First, confirm that your tracking force gauge is non-ferrous (with a magnet). If it is, your arms counterweight must have moved during packing, shipping, or unpacking. Readjust your counterweight to achieve correct VTF. |
