Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
@krelldreams, you should definitely try your Dynaco ST70 with the MG1.7, just to see if that gives you enough power. The RM-10 is a far better amp than the ST70, but their power output is about the same (right Roger?). But remember, a 35 watt tube...
OTL Tube Amps and Full Range Electrostatic Speakers
Exactly roberjerman, and the RM-200’s low output impedance is a bonus with the impedance swing many ESL’s present to an amp. It is also very stable into highly-capacitive load of most (all?) ESL's. A mighty fine amp, made specifically for difficul...

Roger, funny you mention the Fulton J, as that was what I replaced my Tympanis with! After having lived with the T-I’s for a year, in ’74 I heard the Model J at John Garland Audio in San Jose, powered by Fulton’s own mono tube amps (a modified Dyn...

@ramtubes, Roger I happened to make my first visit to a new hi-fi shop just opening in Livermore, CA in 1973, Audio Arts. It was a 1-man shop, that man being Walter Davies, now the maker of the great Last Record Care products. And as luck would ha...
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps?
There are companies offering DIY loudpseaker kits, the drivers and speaker-level passive x/o parts, along with required enclosure (or OB baffle) specs, provided. You make the enclosure (or buy one with the specified internal volume; Parts Express ...
Anyone used these audio ceramic slow blow fuses from Littlefuse?
@celander, you greatly underestimate Roger Modjeski (ramtubes). He uses the parts he finds necessary to achieve superior performance and sound. There is no contradiction between using "improved output transformers" (of his own design) and "High qu...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
And wolf, our turntables can play CD's ;-) . For those of us with considerable music libraries in both formats, it's not an either/or proposition; you gotta have both. For those just starting out, there is, as many have said here, a learning curve...

@krelldreams, though you asked Roger for a recommendation of a low-powered tube amp for use with Maggies, I hope he doesn’t mind if I chime in on the question. As a long-time Maggie owner (my first bought in 1973, the original Tympani T-I; I now o...
My first Tube Amplifier
@roberjerman, Music Reference's Roger Modjeski has thoroughly investigated the Futterman, and thinks highly of it. He has confirmed the amp's low output impedance, and other superior operating characteristics. The only negative I have heard about ...
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps?
The current .7 series Maggies have series crossovers, and are therefore not candidates for bi-amping. The .6 and earlier have parallel crossovers, and can be bi-amped. An electronic x/o is used in place of the external one supplied by Magnepan wit...
My first Tube Amplifier
@unreceivedogma---OTL’s (primarily and most-famously the Futtermans) came to be considered a good choice for use with the original Quad, primarily because an OTL likes to operate into a high impedance load, and the Quad was/is nominally 16 ohms. T...
Which band IS really America's Greatest (rock & roll band)?
@slaw---Yup, I watched the whole season of Cadillac Records, and was surprised it wasn't renewed for a second one. You can sure tell Martin Scorsese was involved, can't ya?! It really captures the New York attitude and energy, and the personality ...
... POORLY RECORDED SONGS THAT ...
@johnto, recording Cream (and Hendrix) WAS a challenge for the old school engineers in ’67, but it wasn’t because of the drums. Clapton and Hendrix hadn’t learned that their stage amps (Marshall stacks) were not appropriate or best for recording. ...
Please help! Tube amp issue
Roger Modjeski (ramtubes) may be able to give you some advice.
Good FM tuner for around $1K
Vintage equipment CAN be a problem, but McIntosh tuners certainly aren't. Audio Classics are experts at repairing, restoring, and modifying them all. The designer of the MR74, 77, and 78 offers updates to those tuners (through Audio Classics), inc...
