Your favourite Christmas song....... "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Produced by Phil Spector, sung magnificently by Darlene Love.
Which Songs Make Good Ringtones? "I Hear You Knocking" by Dave Edmunds. It’s both a great song and apropos ;-) .
Is this the end of HEA? Harry Pearson introduced the term "High End" to audiophiles. J. Gordon Holt preferred the term high performance; that's nothing new. Also not new is the concept of moderately priced-high value hi-fi. I know we live in an era of simplistic bumper-s...
What unknown musical artist would you like to share with your fellow audiophiles? Good one @kacomess! I haven't thought about The Rev in years. Another like him in spirit is Wayne "The Train" Hancock, a real Hillbilly singer. An old friend and bandmate of mine (Paul Skelton) played guitar on his first album, and taking his plac...
Tube amp with KEF Reference 1 Music Reference RM-200 Mk.2. $8,000 new, so look for a used one. Good luck, it's a keeper!
Relative component value to overall SQ. Conspicuously absent is what I consider number 1, the recording (source material).
Have you had enough of Classic Rock? Actually, Doug Ingle of Iron Butterfly played not a Hammond organ, but a Farfisa, same as Ray Manzarek of the doors (lower case their choice, not my mistake). That’s one reason they both sound so cheezy ;-) . The drum solo in "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" ...
Whats playing on your system today? @phomchick, great selection. Regarding the sound quality of the recording, it was made after Ry Cooder had heard his first Water Lily Records recording, and was gobsmacked. He asked 'Why don't my records (at the time, all on Warner Brothers Record...
Monostrapped Atma-sphere M-60 @pstores, perhaps I’m not understanding something, but Atma-Sphere M-60’s are mono amps. How can they be "monostrapped"?
Lifelong Neil? Both Neil Young and (the very-out-of-place) Neil Diamond were in The Last Waltz. Young for his Canadian connection with The Band, Diamond supposedly to represent Brill Building-era songwriting. In actuality it was because at the time of the films'...
Movies employing music in a great way. Great nominees, fellas! Another favorite of mine is American Graffiti, which perfectly depicts the era immediately before the arrival of the British Invasion, which changed everything. The band playing at the Jr. Prom is exactly what the Frat Band...
Mono Cartridge Recommendations The original Decca cartridge was mono (L + R), and when stereo came in the cartridge was modified to create the "difference" (L - R) stereo signal. The cartridge (now marketed as London) used the same cantilever-less design in both stereo and mono...
What are you streaming tonight? @reubent, music as good as David Balls’ "Thinkin’ Problem" is what I hope to hear every time I listen to a new supposedly-Country artist. Guys like him don’t show up very often.@gosta, Rodney Crowell has made a number of great albums in addition t...
Ahhh--Problem solved. Adding a REL sub-bass unit... Another superior musical sub that provides high-level hookup are the Rythmiks containing the PEQ-series plate amp. The XLR-series amps do not, they are line-level only. Most Rythmik models are available with either plate amp.
Mono Cartridge Recommendations "cantilever moves only laterally". The cantilever in a mono cartridge is just as free to move vertically as is one in a stereo cartridge (how could it not be?), it's just that that movement produces no electrical signal. At least, that is my under... |
