Any line array rigging experts here please?
Danny Richie covers all aspects of line array loudspeaker design in his GR Research section of the AudioCircle Forums, and in some of his Tech Talk Tuesday videos on YouTube.
Where can Open Baffle speakers be placed
Even 2-3 feet is sub-optimal. 5' is much better; that creates the required 10ms delay between front wave and reflected rear wave arrival times at the listening position.
I have a theory...
There is a self-described very stable genius who also has delusional theories (he's actually just a grifter/con artist, though a successful one). Maybe he'll use some of that new donor money he fleeced out of those poor naive suckers to fund the o...
XLRs | AES48 Standard | Matrix Mini-i 3 Pro | Benchmark DAC3B
Tim de Paravicini made his EAR-Yoshino pre-amps in accordance with AES48, via his superior balancing transformers (routinely used in the studio work he did a lot of).
Article: "Spin Me Round: Why Vinyl is Better Than Digital"
At the ultimate level, it's not analog vs. digital, it's ANY recording vs. direct-to-disk. After all these years, a superior d-2-d LP played on a superior turntable/arm/cartridge is STILL vastly more "alive" sounding that ANY electronic---analogue...
Leslie West has Passed On
First time I saw Leslie, he was onstage in the band The Vagrants, wearing a fishnet cape adorned with feathers (?!). I think as the opening act for The Jeff Beck Group at the original Fillmore Auditorium (Fall of '68). Leslie was playing a Les Pau...
The Aaron Copland / Bob Dylan connection
@jafant, is Vol. 16 actually available? I tend to take my time getting each new volume, and actually only fairly recently got Vol.15. I would have preferred more from John Wesley Harding and less of the Johnny Cash recordings on that one. There is ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Damn @spiritofradio, that’s a great version of also one of my very favorite songs, up there with "God Only Knows" and "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted". "The Weight" (and the rest of Music From Big Pink, and the s/t brown album), once fully dige...
Tim de Paravicini passed away.....
I believe Tim is also responsible for the tube electronics in Kav Alexander's recorder, heard in his fantastic Water Lily Records albums. Kav uses Modjeski's RAM Tubes in his equipment.
What if any, is the difference between a band or a group?
When The British Invasion swept across the U.S., The Beatles, Stones, Dave Clark Five, Animals, Manfred Mann, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Spencer Davis (yup) Group, Yardbirds, Who, Small Faces, etc. etc., were called Groups. The UK press called th...
Tim de Paravicini passed away.....
First Roger Modjeski, and now Paravicini. Both masters of the science and art of tube amplifier design, and both routinely ignored by the vast majority of high end consumers. Not by myself: my hi-fi collection includes an EAR-Yoshino pre-amp and t...
For the Audiophile with a taste for good design(looks)....a question.
Atma-Sphere and EAR-Yoshino amplifiers, Revox reel-to-reels, McIntosh 70-series tuners, the Quad ESL.
I love sad music
A lot of great nominations already. I’ll add:"No Time To Cry" by Iris Dement. Merle Haggard also recorded the song (written by Iris), but his version doesn’t hit me as hard.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@tomic601: Hey Jim, I'm alive, just been deep up in the mountains in Deer Island, Oregon. On a small farm at the end of a little road, no cable/internet (so I brought no computer). TV reception via a dish, water from a well, septic tank no sewer, ...
Your favorite 'concept' album
For those interested, the Smile boxset is still available through Amazon. Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks started working on this musical imagination on the subject of Manifest Destiny (look it up ;-) in 1966, and closed it down in mid-'67. It is ...
