What's your definition of an audiophile?
The Absolute Sound imo gives audiophiles a bad name. It's been a long time since it was relevant (though I do like Steven Stone, who was mentored by the great J. Gordon Holt.). You know it's bad when TAS founder Harry Pearson quits! But then JGH q...
What are Your Favorite and Most hated Record Manufacturers
Having now finally received some Analog Productions LP’s, I too can confidently recommend them.On it’s way is a Speakers Corner LP (Raphael Puyana’s The Golden Age Of Harpsichord Music, an original on Mercury Living Presence of which I already own...
My thoughts on TT isolation methods.
@mijostyn, to have the design of the Townshend Seismic Pod (the active element in all the Townshend isolation products) explained, and to see it demonstrated, watch Max Townshend's videos on YouTube. Once on YouTube, a simple search of his name wi...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
As far as I am aware, Max Townshend is the only turntable designer/manufacturer who has actually brought to market a product offering damping at the headshell end of the tonearm (via his patented silicon fluid-filled trough). If anyone knows of an...
Morning coffee with Beatles and a hole
The Capitol Records engineer who prepared The Beatles recordings for the 60’s U.S. LP’s added gratuitous electronic reverb to the copy tapes he received from Parlophone. You really haven’t heard The Beatles early albums until you hear the UK versi...
Another Bass discussion...
For a reference, the lowest note the standard 4-string bass (electric and acoustic) plays---the E string played "open"---is located at 41Hz. The fifth string on a 5-string (played open is a B note) makes a 31Hz wave. Some electronic keyboards play...
You can Vote for Most Valuable Lead Vocals (Rock Groups)
For Rock, four of the best singers to come out of the UK imo started as the front man for a group:Van Morrison/ThemPaul Jones/Manfred MannSteve Winwood/The Spencer Davis GroupSteve Marriot/The Small Faces
1st Album you Ever Owned?
Oops, the Paul Revere & The Raiders song I meant to cite was "Just Like Me" (not that "Him Or Me" isn't also great. The Flamin' Groovies covered that one in the 70's). Great Pop/Punk, like The Ramones with a Vox Continental organ added. Fantas...

Buddy Holly, when he was a member of The Crickets. But that's Rock 'n' Roll, not Rock. I don't care for much Rock.
Morning coffee with Beatles and a hole
By "regular clean press" do you mean mono US LP's from the 60's? The U.S. LP's have different song inclusions than do the UK LP's (up until Sgt. Pepper), and pretty substantial poorer sound. The 2014 boxset was a real gift for those wanting the UK...
1st Album you Ever Owned?
My first records were 7" 45 RPM singles, the original format for Rock ’n’ Roll and Pop-Rock music. It was the music we heard on AM Top 40 radio in the very-early 60’s, and sold on 45’s for 49 cents apiece. The only albums in the house were my Mom'...
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)
A pre-amp should not add anything, warmth or "coldness". And the very good tube (and solid state) pre-amps don’t. If your system lacks warmth (whatever that means to you), better to address the source of that shortcoming. Complimentary colorations...
Morning coffee with Beatles and a hole
For original pressings, the UK monos on Parlophone are the ones to look for. Expect to pay dearly for them in very good condition. VERY dearly.

Damn ol' brain. I just watched the performance of "The Weight" I referred to above; it was on "Evangeline"---with Emmylou Harris---that Richard plays drums and Levon mandolin. On "The Weight" Levon plays drums and sings the first verse, Mavis Stap...
The "other" singers you enjoy.........?
Gosh, there are so many not-so-well-known singers (at least to the general public---present company in some cases excluded ;-) I love. Lou Ann Barton, Kasey Chambers, Julie Miller, Iris Dement, Patty Loveless, Darlene Love, Arlene Smith (lead sing...
