Thorens, TD-125 MKII
The Thorens TD-125 had been in production for several years before the Sondek hit the market. I bought a Mk.2 version in '73, don't know how it differed from the original ("Mk.1"), but it never worked right. I replaced it with a TD-150, basically ...
The birth of a new thread dedicated to sharing our newly-acquired "old" LP's.
Though I haven’t been posting my recent old LP acquisitions, I’ve been buying more than ever. Here are some from the past couple of weeks:   - The Bodeans: s/t debut, produced by T Bone Burnett (Slash Records). $4.00. - Bonnie Bramlett: Memorie...
Worst Rock Band Ever !!!!
Did I (or anyone else) already nominate Blue Cheer? To my taste about as bad as it gets. Zero sense of taste, economy, and/or musicality.
ESS speakers "Translinear" Transstatic
This is my first viewing of the thread. I first heard the Transtatic I in 1971, and wanted a pair badly. Unfortunately, I was a starving musician (not literally ;-), so had to settle for a pair of Infinity 1001’s (the 2000A’s little brother). I al...
Guys talking about a Led Balloon
Compare the Yardbirds albums with Jeff Beck on guitar with the one with Page on guitar (Little Games, their last). Guess which stinks?
Your method for discovering great music.
- The What's On Your Turntable Tonight? thread here on Audiogon. - The VC (Vinyl Community) videos on YouTube. - The No Depression website. - Interviews with artists, who mention others. - The credits on albums. Brian Wilson led me to Van Dyke...
Two new books on great musicians.
Pearls before swine.
Two new books on great musicians.
There is a new book on Levon and The Band (published in 2021 by Bearsville), entitled Levon's Man: Woodstock, The Death Of Richard Manuel, And My Decade Managing The Band. Joe Forno Jr. is the author, and the book is available through Amazon. I ju...
Bonham’s Squeaky Drum Pedal
Bonham’s squeaky pedal has been talked about by drummers since the early-70’s. That Ludwig Speed King pedal is referred to as the Squeak King amongst players ;-) . In the mid-to-late-70’s many drummers switched to the Camco pedal, now known as the...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@reubent and @tomic601: Gatton is a guitarist’s guitarist, a guy other masters of the instrument listen to. But he’s not just a virtuoso, a "’flash" player; he’s also very musical. I first heard him when he was working with Robert Gordon, playing ...
Genre: Sacred or Early World Music, what's your go to?
A lot of Baroque can also be considered "sacred", being as church-based as it is (J.S. Bach's day job was as a church organist, and a lot of his compositions were written to be performed on Sundays). Baroque is my "go-to" Classical music.
Wilco, A.Escovedo, Lucinda - ACL Hall of Fame Induction Concert + Terry Allen, Roseanne
I saw Alejandro when he was in Rank & File (with the Kinman brothers, formerly of Punk band The Dils). Rank & File were part of the Cowpunk movement of the early/mid-1980's. Hard to believe, but he just turned 71!
Transmission line speakers!
@roxy54: Are you thinking of the FMI (Fulton Musical Industries) Model J loudspeaker? It was comprised of three separate boxes: on the bottom a transmisionline-loaded woofer enclosure, in the middle a small sealed enclosure with an 8" woofer and d...
Subwoofer question
Right @oldhvymec, Danny Richie of GR Research always uses four subs, both at hi-fi shows and in the system at his place. A pair of ob's somewhere in the front of the room, and a pair of sealed subs (the F12G) in the back. His room was voted Best-B...
Chi-Fi in the Time of Self-Righteous Indignation.
And then there's the term "crackers". In The Last Waltz, Band pianist/singer/songwriter Richard Manuel recounts how that was one of the names they were considering to replace their old one---The Hawks---as their debut album was about to be release...
