80 years old - Paul McCartney & Brian Wilson @nonoise: I really liked Jeff in Crazy Heart, and have the soundtrack. I’ve been meaning to pick up his subsequent album. I didn’t know about the Old Man series, I’ll check it out, thanks. @bwguy: Is your screen name Brian Wilson Guy abbreviated?...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @loomisjohnson: I rate those first three Twilley albums in the same order as do you. I didn't see Twilley live until after Phil Seymour had left the group, so Dwight was doing all the lead singing (his bassist Jim Lewis---who later had one solo al...
80 years old - Paul McCartney & Brian Wilson I wish Brian would hang it up. The last time I saw & heard him live I was left depressed for days. It was a pathetic spectacle. As for McCartney: I’m curious who his current audience is. Nobody I know. But he still appears to be making qualit...
Michael Fremer leaves Analog Planet Agreed @larsman. And even if I don't have the dough for a $10,000 cartridge (though I do have a $5,000 one ;-), $50,000 tone arm, $150,000 turntable, or $200,000 pair of loudspeakers, I do enjoy reading about them. I didn't intend my use of the te...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @spiritofradio and @loomisjohnson: I'm assuming the Twilley album spoken of is his first "solo" album (the third Dwight Twilley album, but the first after drummer/vocalist Phil Seymour left the group and "Band" was dropped from the name), released...
Where do you buy your vinyl? One of my LRS’s now has a rack devoted to $2.99 LP’s. Today I came home with the following, all in Near Mint condition: - Rickie Lee Jones: Girl At Her Volcano (10"). - Andrew Gold: What’s Wrong With This Picture? - Difford & Tilbrook...
Best turntable for the buck I realize mine is a fringe/lunatic recommendation, but I would get a VPI HW-19 MK.3 or Aries (original), put on it a Zeta arm, and mount a London Super Gold w/Decapod on its headshell. That combo will bring your LP’s to LIFE! The London puts out ...
Michael Fremer leaves Analog Planet Fremer's reviews are for the most part academic; who can afford the products he focuses on?! But he also keeps those interested in LP's abreast of developments in the art and science of phono-related products, some of them even affordable. From Fr...
Super fun and silly video I love Lene Lovich.
Interesting ASR review of small GR Research speaker kit "The design of those speakers is just dumb." What's dumb is taking a speaker designed to be used in a specific manner for a specific application and testing it completely inappropriately. @seikosha said the same above, and he is correct. It's like...
Where do you buy your vinyl? For used records I prefer to buy locally, where I can inspect the disc. Some Discog sellers grade accurately (to my admittedly high standards), some don’t. For new records I also like to buy locally when possible, to keep my LRS's in business.
A perfect song? What are your choices? "Lies", written by Beau Charles and Buddy Randell, recorded by The Knickerbockers. A scorching rocker. "On Broadway", just one of the great songs written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Performed by The Drifters. A haunting song if there ever was...
Need suggestions: High pitched female singers Lene Lovich, Victoria Williams, Tiny Tim ;-) .
Brian Wilson-American Masters @tablejockey: I saw mention of the documentary somewhere, so looked on my local PBS channel on release day. It wasn't listed at the time specified in the article (or any other time that day), so I went to the PBS website. The documentary is availa...
Where do you buy your vinyl? All good suggestions. Another source can be a record label itself, if their artist roster is to your liking. Sign up for email notifications of new releases and label-wide sales, and of course order enough to qualify for free shipping if offered. ... |
