Has the internet been good for audio? for me, absolutely. I was able to do in home demos of many different products over the course of 2 year only because of Audiogon and eBay. I have more system for the $ I spent.
Tube amp with volume control vs. with a proper pre Personally I wouldn't be without an active pre-amp and I certainly would not want a 2d VC in the chain. Boils down the the active v passive issues discussed here so often.I'm generally of this mindset too, but since I purchased my TAD 60 I've soft...
Intergrated amp for Totem Sttaf I'd think seriously about a Tube integrated - and while 50-60 w/c would be nice, 30 will do just fine. I had played Sttafs for a short while on a vintage Fisher tube integrated. It was rated at ~20w/ch and it drove the Sttafs very nicely. Unless y...

Totem Arro or Vandersteen 1C or Quad 12L. another vote for Totem - if you want more bass move up to the Sttafs - they will do really well in that room size, not cost much more than the Arro. I haven't heard the Quads, nor the 1C's but when I bought my Sttafs I a/b'd them with Vande 2es at...
Jolida JD9 phono preamp question I haven't cracked mine open to look at the lamp, but I suggest you do so - it's easy to do, check out your tubes. The lamp is an LED which should simply be a 2 wire connection. It could be a plug connector and since I've read a number of folks com...
B and K Refernce 2220 Next Step I sort of agree with Jaybo and Glenhifi, but if you really have the itch for a change, you may want to try tubes - and specifically a TAD 60. There's one listed currently (I have no affiliation), and they come up used now and then, or you may be a...
Volex 17604 power cords I purchased a batch last year that are different from a pair I bought the year previous. I did notice a difference in appearance, though I didn't see anything to indicate Chinese or any other sourcing (could be I wasn't looking hard enough). I bou...
do tubes have anything to do with volume? the first and easiest thing to check is tubes, but it's possible there's something else wrong. I had a similar problem with an amp that turned out to be a combination of bad power tubes, and a bad resistor.
On a scale of 1-5 Kt, I agree with you that budget consideration is somewhat implied in your questions, and as such I think you've framed it well. My point is perhaps overly anal, but I was suggesting it only because (I think) different Audiophiles will devote vary...
On a scale of 1-5 43your survey doesn't include budgetary consideration, which is as big a factor as any in my case, and I believe most audiophiles
looking for a nice tube amp for biamping you don't mention your budget, or which Von Schweikerts you're using. I experimented with biamping my VR4genIIIs - and have a TAD 60 tube amp that I used on the top end with a Electron Kinetics Eagle 4 on the bottom. The TAD 60 is fantastic, espec...
Bird York did you get "Wicked Little High", or her first CD? I listened to a sample of her debut cd (on her website) and wasn't as impressed. I find the WLH is strong all the way through and has a few really great songs. She's also pretty unique (style-wise... |
