Best upgrade: amp or pre-amp? Well... yes... the MA8950 appears to be a great integrated amp... but... "there’s always a but"... it is a very, very sophisticated integrated amp... with lots of circuitry and a sophisticated DAC... and comes at a premium price for all of that. P...
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile bsme85 03-15-2022 at 08:44pm "Most, but not all, people who post here don’t listen to music. They listen to equipment instead." Never were truer words spoken! I’m one of those with OCD, which is driven to seek excellent sound quality and all ...
Amplifier for Harbeth 40.2 As I’ve noted in other threads re Harbeths... the Hegel H590 is among the best amps with Harbeths and, as others have noted, Harbeth typically shows their speakers with Hegel amps. I use the H590 to drive my 30.1’s and 40.2’s, which makes them sou...
Who's using Harbeth with tubes, what speaker model and how many watts per channel? Oh yes... the AR150SE produces 150 watts into 8 ohms. Just assumed everyone knew that. The Harbeths never require more than about 1/3rd of the potential - POT usually is not set above 35/100, which produces a volume level more than most can tole...
Who's using Harbeth with tubes, what speaker model and how many watts per channel? Well... I'm a bit surprised... I got the Hegel H590 to drive my 30.1's and 40.2's, because when I first tried them with the AR Ref 5SE and Ref 150SE tube amps, the Harbeths seemed to lack clarity and dynamics, and had somewhat boomy bass. The H59...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? jjss49 03-09-2022 at 10:31pm "according to harbeth/alan shaw, the xd models are supposed to give a very slight treble lift and midbass lean-out compared to each respective models' prior versions (mon 30, 40, super 5 and compact 7)" That ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? Something I've noticed today as I've tried my AR 5SE preamp and AR 150SE amp class A tube amps with my Harbeth 30.1's is that they seem to drive the 30.1's better on the 16 ohm speaker taps, than on the 8ohm speaker taps. They seem to have a bit ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? Well... If I were going to spend as much as some of you have suggested for the 40.3's... I probably would go for the ATC-100's... because they are so transparent, and the clarity is superb. I'm uncertain, if they have as much "magic" (rich, weigh...
Please Recommend Highly Efficient Floor Standing Non-Horn Speaker Suggestions If you're into transparent, refined, audiophile sound for jazz, classical, country, all things acoustical, etc. - definitely... Legacy Calibre stand mount monitor, or Legacy Focus, or Legacy Aeris depending upon how big a sound you want and how mu...
What stereo equipment do respected musicians listen to? From what I've read... the majority listen to ATC and Ocean Way... both very neutral / accurate.
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf??? Well... don't know about Lyngdorf... but... I do have the Hegel H590 integrated (DAC, Pre, Amp) in 1 box. Use the Bryston BDP-3 as the player / streamer - which is superb also. This setup drives my Harbeths to perfection - which few others can. ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? I have the 30.1’s and the 40.2’s driven by the Hegel H590 integrated DAC/Preamp/Amp... and... they are superb for classical, jazz, country... all things acoustic. You will find very few speakers that can match them when driven by matching electron...
Maggie 1.7i's lack detail. Ideas? I have the 1.6’s modified by "Peter Gunn" into Magnestands and they are great! I generally drive them with Parasound Halo JC-1 monoblocks, or the Halo A21 - which provide the high power, current and damping factor the Maggies need to sound their ...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich Yes - they would be too big. You might consider the Harbeth P3SR, which have a similar sound to the 30.1’s. Maybe supplemented with a REL T5 or T7 sub on the floor. Many of the speakers mentioned may be too big - the Calibre included.
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich Well... yes... the Legacy Audio Calibre is an incredible speaker. I’m not sure I would consider it to sound particularly "warm" and "rich," nor would I consider the ATC’s to be. Though, few speakers sound as great as the any of the Legacy speakers... |
