What stereo equipment do respected musicians listen to? From what I've read... the majority listen to ATC and Ocean Way... both very neutral / accurate.
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf??? Well... don't know about Lyngdorf... but... I do have the Hegel H590 integrated (DAC, Pre, Amp) in 1 box. Use the Bryston BDP-3 as the player / streamer - which is superb also. This setup drives my Harbeths to perfection - which few others can. ...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? I have the 30.1’s and the 40.2’s driven by the Hegel H590 integrated DAC/Preamp/Amp... and... they are superb for classical, jazz, country... all things acoustic. You will find very few speakers that can match them when driven by matching electron...
Maggie 1.7i's lack detail. Ideas? I have the 1.6’s modified by "Peter Gunn" into Magnestands and they are great! I generally drive them with Parasound Halo JC-1 monoblocks, or the Halo A21 - which provide the high power, current and damping factor the Maggies need to sound their ...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich Yes - they would be too big. You might consider the Harbeth P3SR, which have a similar sound to the 30.1’s. Maybe supplemented with a REL T5 or T7 sub on the floor. Many of the speakers mentioned may be too big - the Calibre included.
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich Well... yes... the Legacy Audio Calibre is an incredible speaker. I’m not sure I would consider it to sound particularly "warm" and "rich," nor would I consider the ATC’s to be. Though, few speakers sound as great as the any of the Legacy speakers...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich That would be HARBETH 30.1’s / 30.2’s / 30.3’s! Without any question. With the right amp (those used by Harbeth at shows) - you will have a warm, rich, musical sound, with plenty of resolution, dynamics, clarity, details, and bass (lower mids)! S...
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer “jjss49” Interesting summary of manufacturers recommendations of speaker / amp combos. We prolly need a registry that summarizes the manufacturers’ recommended speaker / amp combos.
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer I'm not sure that anyone can conclude that any brand of audio equipment is all bad, or all good. It appears to me, that how great a particular amp or set of speakers sounds, is not absolute with all amps or speakers. It seems that how good any am...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? I should clarify - they are superb for discerning "audiophile sound" (e.g. jazz, classical, country, acoustic, vocals, etc.). For this type of music, they are almost unmatched. Any old speaker is fine for rock and hip hop, etc. - better off ...
Atma-Sphere vs. Supratek Carlsbad... I see you’re correct, I had not read the history that closely - I seemed to remember a discussion about 10 years ago that indicated it had originated with the Futterman design. Regardless, the OTL design... makes all the difference. I...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? Well… with the right electronics there is very little that come close to the sound quality of the 30.1/2 and 40.1/2. The rich sound is almost unmatched except for the Quad ESL57s. But… “the right electronics” are the key words (eg. Hegel and Mac...
Atma-Sphere vs. Supratek Yes - the Futterman OTL design of Atma-sphere amps makes all the difference in the sound quality. Read the background / history in the web site and in the reviews: http://www.atma-sphere.com/en/index.html In addition, you have the history, qual...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? I agreed with many of the comments of how the Harbeth sound lacked clarity, detail and dynamics... UNTIL... I found the right electronics to drive them - which are the amps the designer demos them with - the Hegel amps. They are a totally diffe...
What Is So Special About Harbeth? Have both the 30.1’s and 40.2’s and they do sound great in all respects... when... driven by the right amplifiers - especially, the Hegel’s, which Alan Shaw demos his speakers with. The SS Hegel amps control the woofers and mids properly, which a... |
