Usless but interesting ....how many of you old timers started with original Large Advents?
Yup my first pair of speakers (after I cobbled some together using TV and console stereo throw-aways) were the Large Advents.  Love those speakers, got 'em in the early 70's had them until just ~5 years ago.  Replaced the drivers at least twice du...
Albums that you listen to straight through / start to finish whenever you put them on!
I usually skip a track on any given album. But there are (at least) two that I simply have to listen to completely:Floyd: Dark SideFagan: KamakiriadOtherwise, my brain will keep playing them in the background untilI finish them.  I know I know.  Do...
Guest suddenly takes it upon herself to move my speakers
To the OP, go to Amazon and purchase Bosch GLM20 laser measure, good to a 1/16 inch. Less than $40.As a young audiophile I had a Radio Shack 140w/channel receiver and the large Advents, pretty good for a 16 yr old.  My dad doesn't know a thing abo...
Axe to grind know it alls
As several Agoners have mentioned they are active on other forums (not audio related) which do not have the same BS going on.  My take on this is simply an audio forum is necessarily based on personal preference unlike a real car enthusiast forum....
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
@millercarbon Would you please talk about the acoustic treatments in the room, particularly the wainscoting that appears to be soft fabric. Also the room looks to be very absorptive and I don't see any diffusers. Thanks,Barts
confused and don't know what to do
Many opinions found here, can be rather daunting. Here's my two cents.  Figure (really think about it) out which "system" you are going to use.  If you are a major music fan then build a stereo. If you watch movies constantly then build a HT.I've ha...
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice
Linda recorded a three CDs of "standards" with Nelson Riddle."What's New", "Lush Life" and (can't remember the third).  Great sound and great music and great voice.  Just listen to the track "What's New"from CD of the same name. Amazing power in h...
Streamers with best apps?
@mahler123  " I also use Bluesound OS, which looks terrible unless you compare with my latest streamer, Bryston BDP3, which has a barely useable app. "Hi there, I recently purchased a Bryston BDA-3.14 Streamer (a BDA-3 plus "Pi" Streamer in one bo...
Audio System Donation
This may not work for you.........but my plan is to right now start sellingoff all the "extra" amps preamps tuners CD players DACs integrated amps reel-to-reels that I've been collecting/using for the past several decades.  Boil it down to one sys...
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
I performed an experiment a few years back when my system needed to be taken completelyapart and moved to a different room in the house.  I had  an approximate total 300' of speakercable running the tri-amped system. I know sounds ridiculous (actu...
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
delkal wrote" I experimented with using beer cans as cable risers. I would drink a beer then used the empty can as a riser.   And guess what? By the time I finished it worked."We must think alike, I did the same thing, next step is to use Foste...
New upper trim level Corvette or seven year old used amps?
Always amazes me how some "hobbies" cross-over to others.Bought my first car at 19, a '68 427 ragtop, still have it. Still makes me smile. Don't drive it as hard as I used too.  Have a 2016 Z-51 vette, fabulous car, but the downside (as someone me...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
The Bryston room at RMAF was bi-amped active external crossover aswell. System sounded great.I had forgotten about the Levinson HQD system: Hartley, Quad, Dahlquist.  Amazing system, you have to have the dedicated space for it though, it was rathe...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
I've been running an active crossover system for nearly thirty years using four ARC amps. Two mono blocks for woofers and then two stereo amps for the mids and highs.  Probably the greatest advantage IMHO is that none of the amps "know" or could c...

Dear Mr. Millercarbon sir,I know it is a bit past Thanksgiving, but I am so thankful that I don't listento my system (or any for that matter) the way you listen to yours.Best Regards,Barts
