Dialectric grease any thoughts
Hi Tim! I'd like to add my .02 to Bob's remarks. For thepast 12+ years I've owned a video editing and media duplication company in Portland, OR. The equipment in mystudio requires hundreds of electrical, audio, video, anddata connections; and I wo...
Sensible Sound's annual speaker recommendations
I also deffinately agree with Zaikesman's post about suchlists. While I see many of these component lists in the audio magazines; I do make a serious effort to listen tomost of the gear I'm buying before it goes into one of mysystems. And a "good"...
What qualifies a "low baller"
I agree with Ozfly and Tireguy that there is no specificdeffinition for low-ball offers. If I feel I have priced anitem fairly - considering condition and what similar itemsare being listed at - and I receive an offer say 15% or morebelow my askin...
Best Full Range Speaker, 750- 1k
I fully agree with Unsound's opinion. I am currently usinga pair of Thiel 3.5s with all McIntosh electronics and findthe sound is just wonderful. The 3.5s do not have the deepest bass extension, but do just about everything else very, very well. I...
Has anyone used "The Packaging Store" to ship?
I would be VERY CAREFUL dealing with this outfit - particularly since you are shipping speakers. They ARE, infact, a franchise chain - and as such are only as good asthe people working there. As has already been pointed out in the above posts, th...
Cheap speaker tweak
Thanks for the tip Kt 88! I already have my Thiel 3.5 speakers on spikes - but will certainly give this tweak atry! Hope it works out well - as it would certainly make exact positioning of my speakers a lot easier.
Any one else have this complaint?
As already mentioned in other posts; I have Thiel speakers -a pair of 3.5s - and have to deal with all the associatedproblems of installing new cables and then re-positioningthe speakers. This is made even more difficult as I havea carpeted listen...
CDR Burning compatibility with DVD players
Sorry to hear about your "problem". As already stated, thereare certain types of media which have playback (i.e. comatibility) problems with certain types of CD & DVD players. As a commercial duplicator of both CDs and DVDs, Irun into this pro...
Help : Need amp as improvement over Adcom 5503
I'm also a Thiel speaker owner who recently moved up froman Adcom GFA-555 II amp to a McIntosh MC-150 - which is agreat amp for use with Thiel speakers. Though the MC-150is out of your price range; you can get an older McIntoshmodel MC-2200 model ...
DVD-R Disc Differences: The Real Scoup????
Before you go looking for some bargain prices on DVD-R discs, you might want to get a July 2002 copy of DV/DigitalVideo magazine. They have a technical article about recordable DVD equipment and blank media that I would consider a "must read" for ...
Phono Amp Recommendations
I want to add one more vote for the Monolithic Sound PS-1.I'm in situation similar to yours - have well above 200vinyl albums in better than average condition - but did nothave a decent turntable or preamp for transfers to CD.I recently got a very...
George Lucas using B&W Nautilus 802 in his studio.
What a great set-up! Skywalker sound's mixing stages - suchas this one - are considered to be the "State of the Art" -in mixing stages for film soundtracks. As the owner of a 12+ year old video post-production & media dupliction company, I've...
Professional vs. Consumer speakers
I just wanted to add another "professional" opinion to thispost. I have owned a video editing and media duplicationcompany for nearly 13 years; and have owned a number of"pro" type monitors for use in our studios, as well as number of well known h...
Oh where or where have all the buyers gone?
I agree with much of Sdcampbell's post that part of the current situation is due to the economy and in part to warmer weather. I've had several items for sale on the 'Gon; and one ortwo sold quickly and the others just languished - with little res...
Thoughts for a system for 5000
Have your friend look up my current system under the "Virtual Systems" heading. I put the entire system together for approx. $5000.00 and it sounds just wonderful. Also, it should be mentioned that the McIntosh preamp hasa very good MM phono sectio...
