Benchmark AHB2 Amplifier, opinions and competition Recently researching for a new amplifier I read a long involved thread about the AHB2 that included a lot of technical discussion and some subjective comments about the sound quality. The AHB2 made my short list but I ultimately went in a differe...
Beware of NAD M3 Fire Hazard The previous versions of my NAD C272 also had exploding caps (currently not in use but has worked well). Turned out to be cheaply sourced capacitors. Possibly they did not learn from that mistake.
Preamp and Amp how much influence each contributes? since running a pre / power amp combo for the first time the sound quality is noticeably a little better compared to my very good integrated amp- slightly better transparency. what really blows me away is the massive increase in jump factor dyna...
Speakers Don’t Matter As Much As We Think They Do? room is important but you can greatly reduce its influence by placing your speakers away from back and side walls by at least 24 to 36 inches and listening nearfield away from the wall behind you.it has worked well for every speaker that has grace...

To integrate or not... we all tend to like change for something new even if it is a move in reverse. proper separates are that way for a reason. typically a much more dynamic life like sound and a more true window into the music. having just upgraded to sepatates the ...
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think agreed, smaller drivers can output impressive bass especially with the right amplifier and enclosure design. the spendor D7 has a transmission line enclosure and that single 6-3/4" woofer sounds amazing. most ported speakers do well but often it...
Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum the "whole amp" is really just (5) small signal tubes. Leaving the JJs in is not going to get the best sound. They are dark as to be opaque and unrefined. I spent 3 years perfecting the sound of the CM II with Harbeth speakers and tried many co...
Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum see audiotubes brent jessee for all your tube needs. the preamp single tube makes the biggest difference but the other two rows do affect the sound significantly.
Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum Yes the stock JJ small signal tubes can also sound unrefined. They take forever to break in- someone on another forum mentioned 700 hours to smooth out!
Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum good info arafiq.you have the CM II, it is an excellent amplifier that is neutral sounding but can be made more laid back with the right tubes etc. you get a huge 3D sound stage and great dynamics with the KT 120 tubes and 100 watts. once you che...

Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum another thing to check is the speaker leads inside the cover. they can be set to either 4 or 8 ohms. my harbeths sounded horrible with the 4 ohm leads connected to the speaker terminals. make sure they are wired for 8 ohms.
Recent upgrade to Cronus Magnum is your cronus v 1 or ii ? i had a magnum ii driving harbeth c7es3 and the sound was refined, dynamic and excellent. if it is the first version it will not have KT 120 power tubes which are mandatory imho. it responds very well to small signal ...
The best looking speakers The new KEF R-series look excellent IMHO as do the Reference models. The R-11 has an exceptionally high quality look and finish. |
