Does You Subwoofer Settings ??
@harleyujoe  Subwoofers take a lot of time and effort to get right.  It is possible for a subwoofer to be adjusted so that all music sounds great.   What you are hearing that bothers you is a peak in the response (a note or small range of notes ...
Warm sounding phono cartridge
@rfauto  The umami blue is the forward lively sounding model vs the warmer laid back umami red.  That said it should not sound thin-  have you verified that the headshell is perfectly level when resting on a stationary LP?  how many hours on th...
Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 Phono. Where do I go from here?
Had the Project and upgraded to a Sutherland 20/20 LPS.  I wanted a clean solid state phono preamp because I have a nice tube linestage.   The multiple gain and loading adjustments on the Sutherland help me get the best out of my cartridges.  Cle...
Turntable upgrade
I almost bought a P6 with Ania.  Had high expectations for the sound but it was one of the most disappointing sounding audio components I have experienced.   Went with a Technics 1200GR and Audio Technica ART9 and what a complete treat this table...
Is a Fluance RT 85 turntable worthy of a moderately priced moving coil cartridge?
If the table has adjustable VTA then go for it.  However moderately priced MC carts have some real dogs.  I had an Ortofon Quintet Blue and it sounded unrefined and not very good even after burn in.  An Audio-Technica OC9 series or the Hana ML are...
Location of compoments.
I don't agree with Jims "golden ratio" speaker positioning formula but do believe he is right on the money with this idea- depending on type and size of rack.   The best sound stage I have heard was at a dealer that had nothing between the speake...
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM?
very simple- 1) budget for some upgrades.  set aside some income to spend on upgrades. 2) buy desirable, easy saleable system components. if you buy well reviewed, well liked system pieces they will be easy to sell and have better re-sale value....
WHY DO SOME AUDIOPHILES TRY TO TELL OTHERS WHAT THEY CAN OR CAN’T HEAR IN A SYSTEM?
Because faulty logic and lack of experience overrules an open mind.
Mac MA 352 vs Pass INT-60
@howardlee  you may like the Pass better but neither are ultimate destinations.  mac makes incredible amplifiers but their preamp and preamp sections are not so great and imho gives people the impressions they have have about the brand.  put a cl...
Turntable Quandry
You are wasting your Chinook phono stage with that Ortofon 2M black cartridge.  Get a Low Output Moving Coil cartridge with 0.3 mv gain compatible with the Chinook at 60db.  The Dynavector DV20X2L cartridge will work great and sound so much cleane...
Who positions their speakers straight ahead (zero tow in) and why.
I do not for two reasons- 1) I like a big i-max like sound stage and space my speakers wide a'la Audio Note and then aim them inward to fill in the sound stage.   2) My current speakers are a bit softer sounding and like to be aimed so you can s...
Vacuum Tube Preamp for Solid State Power Amp Pairing
My recommendation would be for the 6SN7 based preamp the Cary Audio SLP-98L.  Beautiful unit with remote power supply chassis and an uncanny realistic tone quality but I fear the gain would be too much for the Chord amp and the Rothwell attenuator...
Tweaking Your Speaker Placement
@rubicon15  How many blatant flaws and red flags can you spot in that Sumiko video?
Main speaker placement- fundamentally wrong?
Evolution is a designer now? How many ears did we start with and where were they positioned?
Can you damage your speakers by plugging bass port vent?
@ether no damage for sure but be aware that not all ported speakers are designed to be plugged. Unless your speakers came with plugs originally chances are they are not. It depends on physical properties of the woofer suspension stiffness and tr...
