My Amp is good but probably the weak point @stevehuff likes Pass Labs with the Heresy speakers and I agree. Look for a Pass XA25
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience @mulveling The SUT I used include Cinemag 1254 transformers wired at 1:10 for my Lyra Delos. It sounded louder because of the extra resulting gain and really good but ultimately not as refined overall as my Sutherland fully active.
Toroidal vs EI power amps any difference. The components in my system that sound the best use R-Core transformers. These use a continuous conductor and have opposing windings to cancel out magnetic flux and have ultra low noise.
Ortofon Cadenza Blue vs Sumiko Starling @delmatae various turntables, most recently a technics 1200GR. just an end user who loves sound and music. I have had a fair number of cartridges in the last 5 years. dynavector, 3 ortofons, lyra, two audio technica ART9s, soundsmith. the o...
Tonearm Parallel? Always start with the tonearm level and adjust +/- from there as needed AFTER the cartridge has run in for 50 hours or so. However a level tonearm is irrelevant. You really want a level top of cartridge headshell. Tonearms are hard to sight i...
Ortofon Cadenza Blue vs Sumiko Starling I have the Cadenza Blue and it is an excellent sounding cartridge. Big bold soundstage and dynamics, slightly warm with big bass, very nice midrange bloom and refined treble. Beat to bits the Soundsmith MIMC star ES and edged out the Audio-Tec...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience In practice my SUT experience was disappointing. I used highly regarded Cinemag transformers with my Lyra Delos cartridge perfectly matched. The sound was energetic and loud but the treble was edgy and grainy. Using my Sutherland 20/20 fully acti...
New MOFI speaker (Andrew Jones) @doyle3433 I have heard the Razz several times and each time it is a sound I could absolutely live with. Most recent was at AXPONA last April. They were aimed with lots of toe in aiming at a spot a few feet in front of the listener. Huge soun...
Pass Labs X350.5 vs. Cary SA-500.1 monoblocks Buy with the option to return. The Cary SLP-05 (which I own) has very high gain and even though you are pairing with a Cary power amp, it is still a gain miss match, which I am baffled over. The SA 500.1 is similar to the 200.2 which I used to...
My Amp is good but probably the weak point @gochurchgo if you must stay solid state then a clean Class A design is best for your speakers. The Pass Labs XA25 is the best sounding amp I have owned and would be perfect for you, quality used ones are available for a reasonable price.
My first tube integrated: which one to get? @diminishedchord I owned the Cronus Magnum II for several years and absolutely loved the sound. The CM III is an absolute no brainer for you, your room and speakers. Expect dynamic punchy bass, clear refined midrange and a large atmospheric so...
Recommend a good tube power amp in the 100 wpc range for under $4k I recommend the Rogue Audio Atlas Magnum latest version. .Basically the power amp section of the famous Rogue Cronus Magnum III, sounds so transparent and refined with excellent open midrange that sounds better that the up range Stereo 100 IMHO. ...
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) After some interconnect cable swaps, using the single ended 17db output and adjusting the level controls on my preamp to 3/8 of a turn the sound is now very good and at times excellent. I have ordered a pair of Rothwell 10db balanced attenuator...
