Pass Labs X350.5 vs. Cary SA-500.1 monoblocks Buy with the option to return. The Cary SLP-05 (which I own) has very high gain and even though you are pairing with a Cary power amp, it is still a gain miss match, which I am baffled over. The SA 500.1 is similar to the 200.2 which I used to...
My Amp is good but probably the weak point @gochurchgo if you must stay solid state then a clean Class A design is best for your speakers. The Pass Labs XA25 is the best sounding amp I have owned and would be perfect for you, quality used ones are available for a reasonable price.
My first tube integrated: which one to get? @diminishedchord I owned the Cronus Magnum II for several years and absolutely loved the sound. The CM III is an absolute no brainer for you, your room and speakers. Expect dynamic punchy bass, clear refined midrange and a large atmospheric so...
Recommend a good tube power amp in the 100 wpc range for under $4k I recommend the Rogue Audio Atlas Magnum latest version. .Basically the power amp section of the famous Rogue Cronus Magnum III, sounds so transparent and refined with excellent open midrange that sounds better that the up range Stereo 100 IMHO. ...
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) After some interconnect cable swaps, using the single ended 17db output and adjusting the level controls on my preamp to 3/8 of a turn the sound is now very good and at times excellent. I have ordered a pair of Rothwell 10db balanced attenuator...
ATC P1 Pro amp vs. Parasound JC-5 amp what preamp and speakers?
My Amp is good but probably the weak point Definitely not the JC5 with your Heresy speakers! High powered solid state amps are a definite miss match. If you like the Klipsch sound it can be made refined and dynamic with a robust tube integrated amplifier. The Rogue Audio Cronus Magn...
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) @mulveling Preamp tubes are optimized- all spots have early 50’s Sylvania 6SN7 GTA. Smooth as glass. Tried putting the EH, Ken-Rad and Raytheon in and no help. I am also experimenting with cables. I have tried everything. The sound is like a s...
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) @audphile1 not new, a few years old.
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) i am willing to try attenuators but are they any more effective than the front panel level controls? which are variable resistors, no?
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) thanks so far. couple things- not really a brigtness issue, more like slightly hissy treble. my pass xa25 sounds perfectly clean cary can adjust the gain but i am not willing to go down that road
Too Much Gain the Issue ? (preamp and amp) @pmm Thanks, how does using attenuators work better than using the level controls on the front of the Cary?
Liquid Stylus Cleaners I have always used liquid occasionally- e.g. every two weeks or so, using the Audio-Technica stylus fluid. Never had an issue with stylus / cantilever upwards of 1500 hours on cartridges. There are certain deposits that require the liquid to r...
New MOFI speaker (Andrew Jones) @larryi thanks for your report. sibilance is what i was concerned about and is something difficult to fix when there is such a size difference between drivers without filtering out key midrange frequencies. i like the big bass and high sensit...
Sutherland LPS making sound thin? I added my LPS after owning the 20/20 for several months and noticed very little difference in sound- although i am sure if i put the wall warts back in it would be noticeable. |
