speaker cables under 1k for Harbeth 30.2XD?
I am using Soundstring Gen1 Tricormaxial cable and could not be happier. They are now defunct but you can try locating a brand new old stock which was what I did or get them second hand. Very musical and non fatiguing. My local dealer still use th...
Passive speakers for desktop
My current desktop setup and my main listening station. It’s a pair of Cabasse Riga paired with Santorin 21 setup. It is definitely within your budget and driven by my Lab12 Dac1 Reference with Sony TA-A1ES the synergy is frighteningly good. The...
What's next after Luxman 550 AX/II with Harbeth C7
I've heard an all Lab 12 setup. Dac1 Reference + Pre1 + Suara with a pair of QLN speakers.  I liked it. There was a lot of energy but still very musical and pleasing to listen. I got the Dac1 Reference but if I got some spare money I would not mi...
Amp(s) to drive B&W 803 D3 speakers
I recently heard Aavik I-280 and I was utterly gobsmacked that it was a Class D amp. It sounded like an excellent Class A amp. Crystal clear unveiled sound but still rich and weighty. I imagine the P-280 should be identical in performance.  The o...
This is purely subjective opinion. Aqua LaScala/ Atma-Sphere Class D
@jerryg123 You won't be disappointed with it. Pair it with a neutral sounding speaker like ATC/Cabasse/Harbeth plus a smooth-sounding class A amp and you will get an absolutely realistic and musical sound that is so addictive.  After listening to...
This is purely subjective opinion. Aqua LaScala/ Atma-Sphere Class D
@juanmanuelfangioii I would consider Peachtree Novas and TEAC AP series as mid-fi class D. Something like HifiRose RA180 I would consider as high end class D.
This is purely subjective opinion. Aqua LaScala/ Atma-Sphere Class D
I was very close to pick La Scala MKII to replace my Musician Pegasus, but in the end went with Lab12 Dac1 Reference because it's cheaper and to my ears identical in sound quality to the La Scala (though no DSD playback so that might be a deal bre...
Comparing external DAC to CD player DAC
The good news is that entry level high-end DACs are not that expensive now.  Try either Gustard A18, Denafrips Ares II, or Musician Pegasus. Any of these should give a noticeable improvement in sound quality, and then you can decide if you would ...
Recommendations for small desktop speakers under $1500
Cabasse IO3 will be perfect for your usage. It will set you $1.4K for a pair. You do need a sub though because these are satellites. Triangle Comete EZ is a good candidate also. It is not rear ported so you can flush it against the wall.  The ne...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@oddiofyl  Yes, it's a lot more comfortable listening to this Lab12 Dac1 Reference compared to my previous Musician Pegasus.  I've compared it to Weiss DAC 502 and MSB Discrete and I don't feel the Dac1 loses out to them. It does not do DSD and ...
DAC Advice - Benchmark DAC 3
If you like the neutral sound of Benchmark DAC3 you should check out a couple other FPGA DACs - Audiobyte Hydravox and TEAC UD-701N. I like the TEAC, it is neutral with just a touch of sweetness that prevents it from sounding clinical.
DAC suggestions
I've recently upgraded my Musician Pegasus to Lab12 Dac1 Reference. In the process I auditioned quite a lot of DACs. Here are what I think about their sound quality compared to each other: Tier S: Lab12 Dac1 Reference, Weiss DAC502 MKII, MSB Disc...
High efficiency desktop speakers
I auditioned the Sonnet Morpheus and Hermes a month ago (and also Lab12 Dac1). My impression was that the Morpheus was really bright sounding compared to the Lab12 Dac1. So I would try to pair it with speakers that are more laidback to balance it ...
